I am so out of racing practice! I had a hard time remembering just what to pack and to make things worse we traveled in our car vs the RV where all my race stuff stays. I made it and with only one mishap, I call that success!

I took off work Friday and we made our way north to Oxford. We got there at lunch time and I was excited to see a Chicken Salad Chick restaurant. Holly introduced me to this while in Montgomery where it all started while visiting with her a couple years ago.

We headed to the Ole Miss campus where we picked up our race packets and visited the expo. We regrouped back at the condo, I may have had a glass or two of wine, got ready to go out and headed to the Square to find us some dinner. We choose Ajax Dinner, we’ve been here before and it did not disappoint!

Southern homestyle cooking at it’s best right here! After that, a short walk to the car and we retired for the night! Party animals right!

The hubs joined me on Saturday where we tackled the first race. It was 3 miles and a great warmup for me for Sunday’s half marathon. You also had the option of doing the 8 miler today as well. I certainly wasn’t going to push my luck with me running the half tomorrow.

It was fun to run with the hubs and cross the finish line together inside the football statium. There were over 300 runners in the 3 miler and I’d say almost that many in the 8 miler. Oxford runners are fast and numerous.

Who wouldn’t expect alcohol at a race on the Ole Miss campus! It came in the form of Mimosas and they were delicious! We had plans to visit another favorite place to eat breakfast but after bagels with cream cheese, cookies and we could have also had pizza and even smoothies from Smoothie King we were full!

Just in case I don’t get a chance to finish this post, I am leaving it right here. I hope you check on me and see how my half went today (Sunday) if your reading today!

Have you raced yet this fall season? Do you get nervous at the start of the season just like it’s your first race?

    • The #38 was the number of Chucky Mullins an Ole Miss player who was injured during a game and later died because of his injuries. They offered a 3 miler and and 8 miler on Saturday thus The Great 38! There is an upcoming movie about his story you should look for it called It’s Time!

  22. I love post-race mimosas- some of our races here have that and it’s my favorite because I don’t like beer. I definitely see where a college campus would have alcohol after a race but be pretty strict with who gets it of course. Your diner food looks really good too- sometimes I love homestyle foods like that. Way to go on the shorter race and I hope that your half went well too!

I have never raced before a half. Vegas will be the first time. I am nervous so may walk the 5k to keep my legs fresh for the half.

    See you soon.

  33. My apologies (again)…I am so late popping over to read this. I was wondering how I never saw your posts, I thought I subscribed a long time ago. I went to “re-subscribe” and as I typed in my email, two options popped up, and one was misspelled! I bet I misspelled my email the first time, and that’s why your posts never made it to my inbox. Duh. Anyways, it’s always great following your adventures on Instagram…so I do know what’s happening even if I’m not seeing your blog posts.

  35. Congratulations on the Great 38 3 miler and Half!! AND your AG award!! That’s amazing! I don’t have anything on the calendar until St. Jude. I struggled through 4 Miles yesterday so we’ll see if I can make it to double digits next month. Wow, I have a long road ahead of me literally. Hope you’ve had a great week!
