Weekly Wrap #18 Traveling Again?

Weekly Wrap #18 Traveling Again?

Yes, we are on the road again. Why stay home when we have so much fun out on the road? Find out what all went down this week and how I recovered from my Florida vacation that actually spilled over into this past week in this the Weekly Wrap #18 Traveling Again edition.

WeeklyWrap

I have not been doing such a great job at reminding you about our giveaway going on so here are a few lines on it before I forget:

We want to thank you for supporting us in our Weekly Wrap link up and to show our appreciation Holly and I are giving away a $75 gift card just in time for Christmas. You will be automatically entered each week that you participate in the link up through the December 13-16 link. There are still a few more weeks to earn entries. The link opens on Sundays at 6 (CST) and stays open for three days.  Thank you again and Good Luck!

Let’s see how this week went.

Monday

Today we left beautiful Orlando Florida and headed home after being gone for a week. My family and I had a ball, I hope you didn’t miss it but just in case you can read about it –> Here!

weekly wrap traveling again

Our last meal and it had Mickey in there! No wonder this is the happiest place on earth! We got home just before midnight and boy I was exhausted, thankful for a safe trip home but very tired.

Tuesday

Normally I would run this morning, but it was raining and let’s be honest here; I had no intentions of getting up early to run. I went back to work today and it was extremely busy with payroll to do along with being out for several days. I think by the time I left I could see the wood on my desk.  I did get a pretty decent amount of sleep tonight because I got in the bed early!

Wednesday

I tried to pull into the driveway at work but there were down power lines everywhere. I parked on the other side and went in to find out a tree had fell overnight and knocked out our phones and internet. Luckily we still had power, the dentist next to us who’s lines were ripped off the side of their building were not so lucky.

Weekly Wrap Traveling Again

The City crews along with our utility company worked all day and finally late that afternoon they had fully restored us.

Tonight I met my husband in town after work and we ate hand headed home for a relaxing night complete with a glass of wine and a hot bath!

Thursday

I got up and ran 3 miles before work. It was the first time I had ran since my 18 miler one week ago today. My dog was happy to be going with me and my pace was great. I even had to make myself slow down. It felt great to get in a run even if  it was cold outside.

Work was a lot better today. I finally had some time to work on blog related things as well. Tonight was spent packing and getting things ready for our trip.

Friday

We didn’t get to leave when we wanted to so we were late getting to Memphis, isn’t’ that always the case? We had to go to the campground first and hook up and then we got in the car and drove to the expo. I got there just as they were packing things up. Boo.

Weekly Wrap Traveling again

I am just so excited to be able to run this race again. I met my fundraising goal, in fact, I exceeded thanks to some very special people who donated to St. Jude on my behalf.

We ate at a pizza place so I could carb up for my race, then we headed back to the campground where I laid out everything I needed for the morning. I didn’t get in the bed until after 11 but I slept well because I was in my bed!

Race Day

Since it was dark when we got here last night I could hardly wait to see what the river looked like this morning. Oh my goodness it did not disappoint either! In fact, it was breathtaking just after 6 this morning!

Weekly Wrap Traveling again

I really didn’t want to leave, but I had a bunch of kids depending on me! I had talked to a few of my friends and they told me of a meet up before the race. I got there in time to see Katie from Sole Sister Katie, Debi from Girls run the 901, Tara from Running n Reading who came to cheer us on and also I got to meet Cecilia from MommiesRun and also Debra from Happy Running Sole!

I know I still have my Magnolia Half to recap and I’ll do the same with this one….a little later. I will tell you I finished with no problems. Tired, but nothing hurt, thank the Lord! I had a great race with a time of 2:27.

After the race we came back to the campground to shower and ended up staying here an relaxing until dinner time. It was just so nice, I sat out on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River and just watched the barges go by.

I enjoyed a recovery toddy, along with my compression socks under my boots and a snack. It was so peaceful and nice.

Weekly Wrap Traveling again

Tonight we ate at Texas de Brazil, it was delicious and we ate until we couldn’t eat anymore! If you’ve never been to one of these and you love meat, I would highly suggest you look for one near you! You can always enjoy the salad bar if your not a meat-eater so there is something for everyone, but the different cuts of meat you get to try is what it is all about.

We stopped in to enjoy a few drinks and entertainment at Jerry Lee Lewis Cafe and Honky Tonk. We visited here last year and had a ball and tonight did not disappoint. The entertainment was from The Rob Haynes, entertainer and that he was! He had that piano on fire!  We stayed there a couple hours before retiring back to the RV for the night.

Sunday

We slept in this morning so I didn’t get to see the sunrise over the River, but that extra sleep was just what I needed. I was able to enjoy my coffee and bagel with this view!

Weekly Wrap Traveling Again

Something else neat about this place was they are building a couple of tree houses on the property, in fact one of the Treehouse shows (you can tell I don’t have cable to watch these) is building one of them. We had a neat conversation with one of the builders this morning. When finished these will be rented out by the night. We will surly have to come back to see this.

We are traveling home today, at some point anyway. We’re packing things up and by the time you read this we’ll be on the road.

That is going to wrap up my Weekly Wrap Traveling Again edition, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Don’t forget today is the last day to enter all the giveaways in the Holiday Giveaway Blog Hop! I am giving away a Chase This Skirt of your choice! You can get to any of the participating blogs through the link to my giveaway so hop on over!

  1. I have a little fun run next weekend–not really a race. No bibs, no finish line. It’s going to be fun! So yes, I’m done racing for the year. I’m working on a post for Tuesday about my goals for 2016.

    How about you?

  3. You’ve had a crazy busy week, Sista. Go to work and get some rest, you hear? LOL. I’m glad you got to meet some other bloggers. Debra and I live in sister cities, have raced many races together…and have never met! I just recently found her blog. You know I’d be all over that river view. And then looking for a boat to launch…and a wetsuit…and a ski…
HoHo Runs recently posted…Cycle Scenes (WW # 18)My Profile

    • Oh dear I’m not sure you want to ski in the Mississippi river, you should have seen the “trees” floating down it! But it was a beautiful angry bird for sure!!! Does that even make sense? I so wish I had more time to visit with the others, Debra was very sweet and I could chat with her for a long time! I’m sure yall will meet up soon!

  10. It was so nice meeting you briefly at the start line. I can’t believe you managed to find me in that crowd. Congrats on another half marathon and exceeding your fundraising goal for St.Jude! I find the donations pour in closer to the race. Good luck with the remainder of your training! Disney will be here before you know it!

    • Yes I was so worried just a few weeks before if I would meet my goal. I mean I know we have until the end of the year but I wanted to do it before I ran. So very nice meeting you. We’ll have to plan a longer time next race! Have you fully recovered?
Tricia recently posted…Get Ready for a Reason to Celebrate! My Profile

  11. Congrats on a great race! Sounds like a good after-race as well (that’s always important, huh?). Good luck as you continue to train. I’m done with 2015 for racing – we’ll see what 2016 holds!

  12. I have finally finished racing for 2015. I am now in that point of recovery where I don’t actually want to train but I’m jealous of all the training everybody else is enjoying. Harumph! My in laws are also in Memphis right now. They went to BBKings restaurant and I haven’t heard about it yet but they were very excited. They are there to take a river cruise probably on that very river. Small world, eh?
Amy recently posted…Amy’s Notes – Week of December 7thMy Profile

    • Wow how exciting for your in-laws. A river cruise would be so much fun! Is it one where you stay on the boat for a few days? We took just a short afternoon tour while in Vicksburg one time and it was a smaller boat held about 30-50 people and out in the middle of that river with currents going all different directions it was kinda scary!!!

  13. Congratulations on exceeding your fundraising goal!

I think I’ve finished all my races for this year, I’ve nothing booked anyway.

I’m now thinking about next year and already have a half booked in May. Just need to think about the other months now!

    • I’m not sure how many half’s I have already on the calendar for 2016. See most of these were already planned before I signed up for this marathon. I do know I have several weeks after the marathon to recover! I’m sure I’ll need all of them!

  14. Nice job on your race! Looks like Memphis would be a nice place to run…haven’t done it yet though. What a pain about the tree down at work. I hope it didn’t blow out all of your technology!

  15. Wow what a busy week indeed! Congrats on the race!

  17. keep wearing that compression 🙂 I do that too all day at work, it can’t hurt while you have these really long runs on the calendar 😉
What a beautiful sunrise! It is so you got to meet so many runner buddies and congrats on a great half 🙂
We are on the same rain plan..I have my limits lol
I have three races already paid for in 2016 🙂 I am trying to think ahead! and get what I can done before summer lol OHH, I dread the heat again.
Karen recently posted…A Slow Start, A Strong FinishMy Profile

    • I’m with you I try and run as many as I can before the heat. But really there are not too many here during the summer months or even late spring because of the heat! I am wearing out my compression socks under my boots. It sure can’t hurt right! Maybe I’ll get up your way soon, would love to meet you!

  18. I love that sunrise photo! Beautiful!
I really wanted to find one more race for the year, but I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m done. Time to plan 2016! I have some goals in mind, but I need to put them in writing… probably a blog post to come! 😉 Have a good Monday!

  19. ha! I thought I would be finished with 2015 races (after my upcoming 5K on Saturday), but that all changed with the Iowa Hawks heading to the Rose Bowl. I’m not registered (yet), but I have my sights on a couple of races in “the vicinity” of the football stuff. #runnerprobs

  20. What gorgeous views of the river! I’m done with races for 2015, which feels a little unsatisfying ( I suspect because my last race was the shortened Wine & Dine ) so I wouldn’t surprised if I found myself running a local 5K just for one last hurrah. 🙂 I do have a race scheduled for New Year’s Day.
