Weekly Wrap #25 Back in the Saddle Again

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap #25 Back in the Saddle Again edition. Link up your posts with us, Holly from HoHo Runs and myself here at MissSippiPiddlin each week. We want to hear about your weekly recaps. You are encouraged to include anything you did to be active, this could include training, workouts, recaps or anything you considered fun. We want to hear it all. You can summarize your whole week or just a small portion of it. It’s up to you! We appreciate each and every one of you for supporting us and each other!

I challenge you to come back later in the week and visit some of the linkers towards the bottom, they need love too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s get right to this week’s Weekly Wrap #25 Back in the saddle again edition.

I’m bacccccckkkk, I’m back in saddle again, yes I’m bacccccckkkk in the saddle again.

Woo hoo, friends it’s been a great week. A little slow go at first but this week I was shaking off the old cobwebs I accumulated over last week. Now don’t get me wrong, I totally loved being in recovery all of the last week, I barely got in 10,000 steps a day and that was just walking around steps.

During my down time last weekend, I got in a lot of writing hours. I’m trying to get back into a more normal routine of staying ahead. Thanks to Kristy from Runaway Bridal Planner, I had never done this before. Speaking of her, I hope if you were interested in participating in her upcoming Grow Your Blog Hop in February you signed up. If not hurry, she may have a few spots left.

Since last week, I did get my marathon recap finished and posted. If you missed it, you can see it here. ย I also posted about why I might do another one here. Might is the key word, make sure to check back this coming week for the reasons why I’m one and done too!

Active life

Weekly Wrap

Water is down at the Lake, but beautiful pre-sunrise view this morning

Back to this week, as far as being active I was able to get in one PT session, we won’t talk about why I missed the first session of the week, but it had to do with me forgetting gym clothes. ๐Ÿ™ In my mid-weekย session, we still gave my legs a rest and worked pretty heavy on the arms. My tri’s were screaming up until yesterday actually. I gave myself off a full 7 days of rest from running and then eased back into 3 runs this week. All were 3 miles or less and one just 2 miler.ย I did not have any problems with my knee but that first run I could tell if I kept going it wasn’t fully ready.

We won’t talk about my decision to skip Saturday’s run either because of the cold and we also won’t talk about not feeling guilty one bit.

Weekly Wrap

I had a great time Wednesday night with a friend of mine I haven’t got to see in awhile. We ate a great local grill and had a nice visit along with nice food and drink.

Weekly Wrap

We watched Get Hard this weekend too. I am not a fan of what I call Stupid Funny movies. Comedy I like, it’s not my favorite but I will watch. And Get Hard did have it’s Stupid Funny moments but for the most part, it was good. Not something for the family, but entertaining!!! Check the trailer here.

Played around with a neat photo app called Super Photo. It does make some really cool pictures. Ever heard of it?

Weekly Wrap

Saturday was very low-key for me. I stayed in the RV most of the day,ย right in front of the little heater because it’s quiet and well warm! We did bear the elements tonight when we met up with another couple to go eat and be entertained by bull riding in an indoor arena.

I hope you have a great week coming up. Some friends of mine are entered for the Frostbite 10k ย and a half this weekend in Starkville, MS. It would be a great race with friends and the 10k would be in line with what I would normally do this weekend. It doesn’t start until 10 AM which would give us plenty of time to make the drive and not get up so early. So we’ll see.

Any races coming up for you this week?

What did you do with all the cold/snow/ice in your area?

Ever seen a chicken chase event?

  1. Ha! I have never seen a chicken chase lol
I think a few weeks low key is really needed after a marathon, it is just so darn long of a run. You earned the rest ๐Ÿ™‚ Those short runs sound perfect.
I liked Get Hard okay, as long as I get some laughs I am good, I do not heavy or scary lol I just want to laugh.
    Have a great week.

  2. We watched Spy with Melissa McCarthy. It was pretty good. Better than expected anyway. Last week we watch The Alien which was VERY GOOD. I’m glad your runs went well. I hope I can say the same very soon. I wish I could say it was a quiet week, but I was busy at work and then had that unwanted trip to Atlanta. I’m afraid my plate will be full this week too. I need to blog ahead, but still feel like I’m catching up. PS…I’m now singing that song and probably will for days…
HoHo Runs recently posted…A Look Back (WW # 25)My Profile

    • I’ll have to check out the Alien, we get on kicks about movies. We’ll go for a month without watching one then we’ll watch 3-4 at a time. Who knows. This week will be busy for me at work, I’ve got lots to do to prepare for end of the year stuff. Not looking forward to that! At least it is a good song in your head right ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Superphoto is a fun app. I played with it a bit but I try to use it sparingly. There are many fun effects to try, though! I know what you men about stupid funny I like comedies but some movies are more irritating than enjoyable. That’s great that you were able to get together with a friend you don’t see often. I always enjoy that. Have a great week!

  4. Amazingly we didn’t get ANY snow up here in the Great White North! it’s been cold but there hasn’t been any snow, which I am A-OK with! I’ve seen people use that app but I had no idea what it was called so THANK YOU for that! I’m going to go and download it now – it looks really cool. Good for you for not feeling guilty! You just ran a marathon, enjoy your down time! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I’m A-OK with no snow too! It just causes so many problems in the deep South, we just are not able to deal with it well. Yes go play with Super Photo and use the Painting one for pictures like these here. There are so many I still haven’t tried either.

    • Hey shoveling is great exercise! Yes, I do hope it melts for yall by your 10K! I am testing my running legs with a 10k this weekend. It will be a slow run for me, I’m going for the fellowship with friends more than anything. Appreciate you linking with us! Have a good week Deborah!

  10. I just signed up for that blog hop! I’m hoping to get back into blogging and being better about it! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve missed these weekly wraps! Congrats on getting back in the saddle! I know it feels great!

    • I was just thinking about you last week and I did mean to check on you! I’m a #badblogger! But I’m so glad you have joined in the blog hop. Yes, we have been missing you Kaleigh! I was over your way recently at Stone Mountain. Have you been there?
Tricia recently posted…Weekly Wrap #25 Back in the Saddle AgainMy Profile

      • Aw thank you! I changed my blog name, yet again. I am vowing to be better at it! I’ve been to Stone Mountain, but not for a few years! It looks like you had a great Christmas there!

  11. I think most people (and I’m one of them) have the “one and done” attitude for that first 26.2. It is SO intimidating! But, for me at least, once I did the race, I no longer had the fear. Even though all the other marathons have had different courses, I am not afraid of the distance. Liberating, huh!
Kim Hatting recently posted…Have you smiled lately? I have!My Profile

    • I think I will be that way. I was scared to death before this race not even knowing I could finish. I did and even without the best of circumstances. I guess now it’s a matter of do I want to train like that again? Who know more than likely I’ll do another one. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Sounds like a good week. Very busy ! It was COLD here all week but its back to high fifties again. Crazy ! I have a race this coming weekend… a race-weekend away with my husband in the South of France. We usually go skiing in January but I didn’t think that would be too smart, right in the middle of marathon training !
    Have a great week.

  15. Never seen a chicken chase, but it seems like a good way to wear out kids! Glad your knee is doing better and you shouldn’t feel guilty for missing a run- sometimes you just gotta go what you gotta do! It’s gotten really cold (for FL) and other than a daily walk with Kara, we’ve tried to stay in and snuggle. Hope you have a great week!

  16. I have seen a chicken chase event, and a pig chase, and a calf scramble.. winner gets to keep their prize! Great for 4-H kids. I say don’t feel guilty about missing a run, I think from time to time you have to do that, especially when the weather conditions aren’t ideal. We are supposed to see the 50s this week and I am pretty excited about some warmer weather, sadly I think it will also be windy!

  17. Ha I have never seen a chicken chase but it sounds kind of hilarious! We got a bit of snow this weekend but nothing crazy and it made for a lovely backdrop for some family fun outside yesterday.

    • Now that is my kind of snow just a little bit, a snow day for the kids to burn off energy but then I want it to all go away. We don’t do snow well in Mississippi! The chicken race was so funny! My video didn’t capture the little ones trying to grab them by the feet though. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. I’ve never seen a chicken chase, but the mutton riding was always a hoot!

Not a fan of stupid funny movies either, although my sister is.

Just curious what you consider cold? No snow here, but it was seriously cold last week, thankfully warming up this week. We’ve had a very mild winter so far and I am grateful.

Good job getting active again! And I’m impressed with how quickly you’ve bounced back.

This is my first winter not having a gym and I am really considering joining one for a month just to get through the thick of this winter.

  20. Never seen a chicken chase, but I’ve seen a greased hog chase & that is some funny stuff!

I’m looking forward to hearing why you’re one & done. I’m there with you. Well, it took me 3 to come to my senses, but similar thing.

And oh buddy does that drink look DELICIOUS!

  21. All we got was wind and cold, and I was on the treadmill Saturday. I braved the weather last weekend but I wasn’t going to do it this weekend. It was even colder. We’re fluctuating with nice weather today and a cold front tonight, with warm weather coming this weekend. No wonder I have a cold ๐Ÿ™

  22. Wow I’ve never heard of that chicken race! Sounds quite interesting. I need to get back in the saddle myself- after a week of vacation and only one run (but lots of walking ) I feel it!

We watched The Intern which was dumb but entertaining.

We lucked out and got zero snow but it was cold.

Looking forward to running in Fla in 2 weeks. Hope it warms up there.

  27. If you have any great tricep workout routines/moves I’d love to hear them! For some reason triceps are one of my favorite muscles and a main part I want to tone up and build muscle ๐Ÿ˜€

Also glad you are getting back into your routine! I need to work on finding time during my week, or commit on the weekends to start blogging posts way ahead of time! I signed up for Kristy’s blog hops again I believe I’m doing the one and two options, as I wasn’t sure if my blog specifically comes out as being fitness quite yet. BTW I also call comedies that too ๐Ÿ˜› and am usually not a fan lol Hope you have a great week ahead of you!

  28. I am pretty new to blogging “properly” so I am trying to stay ahead and have an editorial calendar. Blogging is hard work! I am from Mississippi as well! Nice to “meet” you!

    • It is very nice to meet you too Allycia, what part of Mississippi are you from? I’m central but closer to the AL line near Meridian. Blogging IS hard work and I’m not sure I do it properly or not either. I’m so glad you stopped by I see you love journaling and planners. I too am kind of obsessed with my planner I’m still trying to get a system down because I also use it to keep up with my blogging. I use the Erin Condren. What do you use? Any tips for me on incorporating my editorial calendar into my planner. Look forward to connecting with you Allycia!

      • I am from central MS, from Byram, right outside of Jackson. But I grew up in Florence. Currently I use a bullet journal for everyday planning but I am trying to adapt my personal size Filofax to use for blog tracking. I use the monthly inserts to keep my editorial calendar, which I’m still trying to get down! Right now I pretty much use a Moleskine notebook I found at TJMaxx and just do daily lists and brain dumps in that. Maybe I will do a post about my “system” and see what others think and what advice they can offer! I loook forward to connecting with you as well!

  29. First, thanks for the mention, that is sweet of you!
I am glad the suggestion of working ahead is helpful for you! Last year I put a huge focus on it, and it’s made a huge difference. I no longer get that blogger burn out, sometimes its just nice knowing I have posts either written or saved up for a week I need a break, LOL
That is exciting you are back in the saddle again:) I can’t tell you how many first time marathon runners I hear about that right after they loose the drive to run, and end up giving it all up. It’s like they had one goal in mind and after they lose the drive. Thrilled that didn’t happen to you, not that I thought it would. You’ve been running for years in other distances, so your love for the sport was already there:)
So I didn’t forget about your link up today. Truthfully, my post wasn’t exactly on much of a postive note and I didn’t think it was one that was appropriate for linking up:)
I love me a great rodeo, but a chicken chase I haven’t seen that before, LOL I do like watching the kids do the lamb catching or even the weird adults who go after the greasy pig ones, LOL Of course, if ever dared to, I would be one of those weird adults, LOL LOL

    • Your advice always helps me now whether or not I adhered to it is a different story, but the scheduling ahead has worked wonders for me. I wish I could write on a whim but I find when I have to sit and write I’m not in the mood. When I am in the mood and are not bothered, the creative juices pour! Do you do that or have you taught yourself to write when you have the time? I really worried about not wanting to run after I got done. I think it kind of scared me a little I was so close to being burnt out. All seems good right now. I hope I can find that fun drive again. It’s ok, we do love to have you in the link up though.

  33. You’re recovering from a marathon, and I don’t think you need to feel guilty at all about however you choose to go about that. It’s not just a physical recovery, but a mental one, too. Sometimes you’ll get to a point where your legs are ready to go again but your mind still isn’t. When I run into that I just find other types of workouts to do – cross training, swimming, biking, etc. – until my brain starts to crave running on a regular basis again ๐Ÿ™‚
