Hello friends, Holly and I have had a wonderful weekend together! Before I forget I sure hope you’ve been keeping up with us through our social media accounts. I tried to document the things we were doing without taking away from our time together.

My Active Week

Sunday – Today we traveled home from Memphis, so I didn’t do much at one time but I got in about 12,500 steps.

Monday – I went to my trainer for leg day and oh my I was sore through Wednesday! Plank tonight, 10,800 Steps

Tuesday – 1.25 miles with my daughter, then 3 mile walk, Plank tonight, 16,200 steps

Wednesday – Training at the gym, arms and shoulders, Plank tonight, 10,114

Thursday – 11,300 steps an that’s about it.

Friday – Traveling to the Beach.

Saturday – Lots of walking today. Over 10,000 but not exactly how much.

As you can see I took it easy with my foot, it doesn’t hurt but sometimes I can still feel it. It does make a difference when I ice it. Since I’m not running every day like I was I struggle a bit more getting in my steps and several times have been walking around the house or yard at night. I’d like to get back in the habit of getting in 5,000 steps every morning before going to work. This really isn’t hard I just have to get up in time.

Eating Habits

I so need some work and need to do better. Several nights we ate late, one night I did great with Salmon and vegetables. but I’m finding that I’m snacking more during work. I am not getting in the water that I use too since I drink coffee in the mornings. I was trying to do like Marcia and drink a bottle of water before my coffee, but that too has fell to the wayside.

Fun & Travel

I am doing excellent in this! πŸ™‚ Hey you got to give credit where credit is due, right?

In case you missed it Holly and I are together this weekend to run in the Destin Half Marathon on Sunday, I thought all along it was on Saturday, my bad! Oh and you can check out what a great time we had the last time we were together in Montgomery by reading my recap here: Montgomery Half.

Just to give you a heads up, we did finish our race. The race itself was great. It was an out an back however, the uncontrollable wind was brutal on the entire second half. It was like running with a parachute behind you. Wendy I thought of you.

I finished in 2:24 which given the conditions I felt was strong for me. No complaints here, again nothing really hurt so a blessing there.

Up and Coming

Next weekend is when my family and I run in the 5k they’ve been training for. I am so very proud of them all and can’t wait to have them join me.

The following weekend after that I’ll be headed to Nashville to run in the Rock n Roll race! I’ve never been to Nashville! If you have,Β tell me some things I don’t need to miss, or places to eat.

    • Karen, I’m not sure what went on with my foot. On Wednesday before my Memphis half I went to run and It just wouldn’t’ hold my weight. I quit my runstreak, iced it propped it up. All day Thurs and traveling Friday. Woke up Sat, still not knowing if I would be able to run and I did not have any problems at all! It was still tender the next few days so I don’t know. It didn’t bother me in this race either. I can still feel it some just not all the time. πŸ™‚ Weird. Appreciate the well wishes Karen!

  4. It looks like you had a fun weekend from your pics on IG — will you be explaining that putt putt pic in a runfession post (or a golffession?). Wind can be brutal but it sounds like you made the best of it.

      We had stalked the weather all week for everything but the wind! Oh my we never dreamed it would be like that. I’m sure close to what yall had for the Cherry Blossom looking at your video of the flags flying!

  5. It looks like you had a great weekend! A Sunday race would definitely mess me up because my whole training week revolves around a race occurring on Saturday. I wouldn’t know what to do. Wind can be terrible in a race especially if you can’t find someone to run behind and try to “draft” or have them block the wind for you. I had that today on my long run.

    It’s really fun that your next race is a 5K with the family! That way you can recover from the half marathon this week and just enjoy the 5K.

    • Racing on Sundays messes me up too! I do all my long runs on Saturday so it just puts a kink in everything. I tried so hard to “draft” behind people, but in this case it just did not work no matter how big of a person in front of me.. I did try!!!
      I really am going to try and enjoy the 5k Amy, if I could run them as fast as you I’d be finished in no time. lol. I am looking forward to enjoying it with my whole family though. πŸ™‚

  11. Congrats on your race! High wind is my least favorite type of weather to run in. I’ll pretty much take anything over that. Kudos to you! That must have been really tough, especially with an out and back course.

    So exciting that your family’s 5K is this weekend. I hope everyone has a good time! My first race was in Nashville when I was a freshman in college. If you get the chance, check out the Wild Horse Saloon. It’s a blast!

  12. Can’t wait to read your recap of the race! It’s a shame the wind was so brutal on you guys. I love Destin, it has the most beautiful beaches. I haven’t been to Nashville in a while, but it’s such a fun city! Make sure you go to Opryland Hotel just to walk around for a bit. It’s such a cool hotel, and they have a fun dancing water show in one of their atriums.

    • Yes I told my husband I wanted to go to the Opryland Hotel. I got to stay there when I was little but of course couldn’t remember anything about it. I’m afraid we are going to be overloaded with everything we want to do and not enough time to do it all. Maybe that means we just need to plan another trip later. πŸ™‚

  17. Great job finishing despite a brutal wind, that really makes things a lot tougher mentally and physically.

    I have been so bad with the snacking at work lately too, ugh. People need to quit bringing in all the temptation!

  20. Congrats on a race finished not hurting & battling wind — been there, done that, never fun! But more fun with friends, for sure.

    Never been to Nashville, but we were actually chatting about it just this weekend. One of my nieces has been, and we were asking her what type of BBQ they have — dry or sauce (dry, she said, which is what Mr. Judy prefers).

  22. Wind is never fun. I hope it wasn’t cold, at least. I can grudgingly put up with wind but if it’s cold, forget it. That’s when I’m mentally checked out and I’m done.

  23. Congrats on finishing such a windy race. Wind and humidity are the two conditions that are never fun for a race. So exciting that you get to race with your family next weekend.   24. I am glad your foot is hanging in there! Sounds like a great week to me. My daughter and I ran the RnR Nashville race last year and it is a lot of fun! Lots of hills though!   27. Congratulations on Destin! The wind in Florida has been crazy! It’s nice that it seems to be keeping the weather cooler, but it sure does make cycling and the like a lot harder than it should be.

    Nashville is supposed to be epic! I wanted to run that RnR, but it’s the weekend of my little guy’s birthday, and I want to spend it with him. Have so much fun!

  30. Great time, especially when you had to push through a brutal wind! Your tank top from race day is really cute – love that blue. And YAY for your upcoming family race!!! I need to try drinking a bottle of water BEFORE my coffee in the morning… that would help me so much! Especially for the snacky cravings. Usually I’m just thirsty but I reach for a snack instead πŸ™‚

    5,000 steps before work, that’s a great idea! Depending on which job I take I may have to switch to evening runs, that 5K step idea is a good one for me to adopt to if I have to switch to evening runs!

  34. Great job on your Race! Running in the wind can be so tough, wonderful job pushing through it!! I try to do the same thing you mentioned with drinking water. My goal is to drink 20 ounces of water right after I get up in the morning, but sometimes it is a struggle. One thing that makes it easier to have one of the wide mouth water bottles instead of a sports bottle to drink it from.     I had a freakin’ blast. I’m so glad y’all could join us. Half marathons are much more fun with you at my side! We darned sure conquered that wind! And: Destin, PCB, Boondocks, AJ’s, Auntie Annes, Thomas’s, zombies, pirates, putt-putt, Margaritaville, Rum Runners, Shades, Tootsies, HoHo Honeys, sunsets…it just goes on and on.   38. Looks like you got a lot of steps in your week! And I love that your family has been training for a 5 km. My little guy (he’s almost 3) ran in his first 1 km race this weekend!   42. I need to work on drinking more water, too. I tried the water bottle thing, but let it slip after a few days (I think I forgot to do it over the weekend then didn’t bring it to work…) Lately I’ve been using a lot of Nuun in my water. Still not drinking enough, but baby steps… πŸ˜‰ Have a good week!

  47. My new “trick” for drinking more water in the mornings, which usually means after my workout when I’m eating breakfast at work is to earn my coffee. I have a 14oz-ish cup & straw I keep at my desk. I fill both up, and drink the water while my coffee is brewing & cooling down from the molten hot temperature from which is leaves the machine. I earn my coffee once my cup is empty. Gives me some motivation to suck that stuff down! Especially before my coffee gets cold!
