Weekly Wrap 46 Barrel Racing Fun

Hello friends, I’m so glad you’re joining me for another edition of Weekly Wrap, a link up to keep us all accountable to our active life. You may link up your posts with us, Holly from HoHo Runs and myself here at MissSippiPiddlin each week. For all the scoop and a few rules too, visit the Weekly Wrap Link Up Tab at the top or simply click the words Weekly Wrap.

This is the 46th edition and is named Barrel Racing Fun. ย I’ve been MIA most of the week as I’ve been in Jackson, Mississippi where we’ve been enjoying some barrel racing fun.

I’ve been driving back and forth from Meridian to Jackson, MS (about 90 miles one way) to try an work some. My family has been here all week and got here Monday night to set up camp. ย We are here for a huge barrel race we compete in every year. If you are interested, I go into more detail about this event in my post from last year. Just ignore all the sideways pictures. At some point, I installed a plugin that rotated most of my older post pictures.

All American Youth Barrel Race 2015 Post

Unlike last week, this one posed more of a challenge to stick to my normal routine and get in my workouts. You can be assured I kept my tips fromย 5 Ways to feel your best on vacationย close at hand. Driving back and forth just sucks the life out of you too, I really respect those of you who commute over an hour to work each day. I could not do this!

So let us take a look at how this week played out in the active department:

SUNDAY – Ran 1 mile / Kayak 2+miles / Biked 7.5 miles / 19,000
MONDAY – Ran 1.73 miles / Cardio + Total Boday Gym Workout / 14,700 steps
TUESDAY – Ran 1 mile that’s it! REST and in bed early only 5,600 steps
WEDNESDAY – Ran 2 Miles / 19,800 steps
THURSDAY – Ran 3 miles / 32,500 steps
FRIDAY – Ran 1.7 miles / 19,400 steps
SATURDAY – Ran 2.6 miles / 27,100 steps

In summary, I’m happy to report my Runners World Runstreak is still alive. As I said, it was much more of a challenge to get up so early and bed late to get in my runs. Being on this concrete it is so freaking hot you could fry an egg and it’s not even August yet. I get up an out the door at 5:45 to beat the heat and after only about a half a mile I am wet with sweat! Seriously!

As you can see I did plenty of walking here and only one day did I go back to sleep after I ran. #sorrynotsorry.

I hope you’ll enjoy my slide of some of the pictures on my camera roll this week.

I can't believe this is her last year to be a youth!

It was a bittersweet week as its an all youth race and my daughters last year to compete, cue the tears. She was lucky enough to make it back to finals to run for the big bucks and while she had a clean run she is what we call a “Crack Baby” meaning she fell in between the divisions to get a payout.

All in all a good week, I saw friends I don’t get to see near enough and others I just assume not ever see again. Keeping it real yall.

I must say in the past we’ve seen issues with crime an even horse people stealing as well as tragic accidents, both with animals and humans. Unless I missed something, this has been a great year with no real problems. Course we were without water for several hours due to a main line break but the City reacted in a timely manner to provide porta potties and huge pools of water to keep the horses safe.

We did not bring home any paychecks this time around but they were all safe runs so we are very thankful for that!

What’s coming up for me, we’ll we are headed back to the campground until right before the July 4th weekend then we’re beach bound. I’m so ready too!
I am sharing in the support love by linking up with a Sunday Fitness and Food Linkup hosted by

Ilka from Ilka’s Blog and

Angela from Marathons & Motivation

I appreciate them both for supporting our link up as well and I hope you will join me.

Tell me what your plans for the 4th are?

How did you like the picture of the Equine Spa? This is on a trailer and you walk your horse in it and it fills with water. How cool would this be for runners after a big race? Would you get in it?

Link up with us!

  1. The Equine Spa is a fun idea – who knows after a long hot sweaty run some runners might actually use it.
It has been insanely hot here in Palm Beach too. Even in the early morning you don’t really get relief and as you said Tricia – it’s not even August yet! The picture of you and your daughter is beautiful – also the one with your daughter and the horse is really sweet. I can imagine how exhausted you are after these long (!) drives – that’s the worst for me, too. I really miss that about NYC, I always used to walk literally everywhere in addition to my running. Felt so good! Congrats on still going strong with your Running Streak – amazing! That’s not an easy thing to do. Our plans for the 4th are BBQs, Beach and Fireworks. Have an awesome (Running) Week, Tricia!

  2. Wow on the horse barrel racing! Congrats to your daughter – just don’t call her a crack baby when you come to D.C. ๐Ÿ™‚ I couldn’t take a commute that long. My mom used to have an hour long commute and I think that cured me of ever wanting to live in the country! Just booked tickets for my daughter to come home for the 4th so I guess we’ll be sticking around.

  3. That’s wonderful that there was no accidents!

How do you stay so active, work, and drive back & forth all week? We drove to my parents today, which is a 90 minute drive, of course we have to stop for Lola so it took a bit longer. We left a bit before 9 and got back a bit before 6 . . . geez it makes for a long day.

Normally I would’ve gotten in lots of steps walking Lola around since my parents don’t have a fenced in backyard, but it was so hot today I had to keep all our walks pretty short. It wouldn’t feel hot to you, but considering how cool it was at the beginning of our week . .

    • I did not have much choice this week, I knew I’d be walking so much back and forth all over the fairgrounds. We usually bring our golf cart to go on but it’s broke so ol Mo and Joe got their workouts! I don’t mind I actually like to walk a lot.
I stayed home Tues night after work and went to bed really early then once I got off on Wed I did not have to go back to work for the week!

  5. Haha, the equine, I mean runners’ spa! Can you imagine? Would you want an ice bath or a warm bath after a hard run? I’d go for the heat myself. Not a fan of ice! I have been known to jump into a swimming pool wearing my running clothes, tho!

So bittersweet for your baby…will she compete after this year?

  6. Way to go on your daughter’s barrel racing! Glad everyone was safe and everything was crime-free too. It sounds like a good environment but you never know- it’s not like the running community is immune to those things either. I’d totally be down for a runner’s spa after a race- even a massage tent with students impresses me. Speaking of which, I haven’t seen that at many races lately…

Glad you are feeling better and were able to keep the streak up. They’re not for me but I know that motivates a lot of runners with the heat of summer.

  8. I enjoy reading about your adventures in your camper…cuz that’s certainly a 180 from my life ๐Ÿ˜‰ My MIL totally turned me off to camping shortly after the husband and I were married….she made it SO much work. My idea of camping would be sandwiches/hotdogs/burgers on the grill, HER idea was cooking a 4-course meal on the single burner stove (I kid you not…we’re talking spaghetti, meatballs, sweet corn, etc…..all served on real plates that had to be hand-washed in the itty bitty sink in the camper). It was NOT relaxing in any capacity LOL
Kim Hatting recently posted…Not Rushing the RecoveryMy Profile

    • Oh no, man that would turn me off too! And gosh the sink it is so freaking little! I always end up with water either on me or the floor!
We do the hotdogs and hamburgers too but we’ll grill a lot. I don’t do much cooking period so the hubs really likes to grill and did you see the new griddle he got? It’s huge! He is so loving it though.
I’m glad your interested in our camping and trips in it. You never know I may can talk you into getting one of your own, lol

  9. Congrats to your daughter! I’ve never seen a barrel race, but I’m glad that there weren’t any major problems that affected the people or horses! I’m trying to figure out how you got over 32,000 steps in one day, lol! I ran 9 miles yesterday and still didn’t get that high! ๐Ÿ™‚ Great job keeping up with the streak!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets recently posted…Philly Marathon Pre-Training Week 2 RecapMy Profile

    • Janelle it was actually not that hard. The fairgrounds are pretty big and from our RV in the back to the arena is almost a half a mile so going back and forth several times makes up a lot of steps!!! Thanks for stopping by!

  10. I feel the same way about long commutes. If it takes more than 20 minutes to get to work, it’s too long for me! Glad you were able to make it work though to be with your family at the event. Looks fun! And yay for keeping your streak alive!

    • Yes I bet you were bouncing all over the seat! I remember as an adult when I got my horse. I had a pony when i was little but you know being little and actually riding as an adult is two different things. It took me some time to actually sit the horse and it is a learned skill!
Thanks Brittney for stopping by and participating !

  15. Barrel racing sounds like a lot of fun. Many congrats to your daughter on a strong performance!

  16. I try to make sure my commute isn’t bad at all. I’ve been lucky in Dallas that I’ve never lived more than 10 miles away, but I know people who live an hour or more due to traffic on the roads.

  17. great pictures! Looks like you all are having a great time! I am taking it easy in the big easy! The barrel racing looks like a lot of fun- nice you got to spend a lot of time there even if the drive was tough! The days I have to drive an hour to a facility I just cringe! I feel ya! That horse spa is a crazy idea! I guess we all like to be pampered! Have a great week Tricia!

  18. Even a 40 minute commute can really zap the life out of me. Not so bad on the way INTO work, but on the way home when all I want to do is take off my bra & enjoy a drink on the porch, 40 minutes drags on forever.

  19. I don’t have July 4 plans yet, although I’m starting to think about them! That’s a pretty cool experience, the horse barrel racing. It’s odd that there’s the “sabotage” component of the racing that you mentioned, and I’m glad nothing too bad seemed to happen this year!

It is 4 miles and I love it. Other than that my mother will probably have carne asada, guacamole, etc. so we’ll have a great time eating.

    • I have just found out I liked guacamole! Well I should say I finally broke down and tried the stuff I always thought I hated as a kid. We’ve been getting fresh ones and making dip and man I’m loving it! Thanks Zenaida good luck in your July 4th race too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. Congrats to your daughter for making it to the finals. Sorry she fell between the cracks! I’d get in the spa after a race, but only if they changed the water between runners. Because…ewwww. Driving that far and back (which I did both weekend days for a total of 400 miles) sucks the like right out of you. I’m sitting here so sleepy and crabby. Coffee didn’t seem to help this morning either. Hmm… Enjoy your week at the campground and get some of that water therapy.

    • Well you are right about changing the water! Lol!
Our neighbors at the campground have the exact same kayak as me, which makes me think I so need something to set mine apart. I’m thinking about getting a vinyl made that says Lime-A-Rita on it. What do you think??? ๐Ÿ™‚
