Weekly Wrap 52 Myrtle Beach Vacation

Good day friends, I’m coming to you from beautiful Myrtle Beach, SC. I can not believe how fast this last week has flown by! I know we were having fun, but that much fun??? We’ve had a wonderful time and will be headed back to Mississippi bright and early Monday.

Thank you again for  joining us for another edition of Weekly Wrap, a link up to keep us all accountable in our active life. You may link up your posts with us, Holly from HoHo Runs and myself here at MissSippiPiddlin each week. For all the scoop and a few rules too, visit the Weekly Wrap Link Up Tab at the top or simply click the words Weekly Wrap.

This is the 52nd edition and is named Myrtle Beach Vacation. My family and I set out after work on Tuesday to start our Family Vacation. First stop was at Six Flags in Atlanta for a day of fun on Wednesday. We were back on the road and arrived at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC on Thursday afternoon. We’ve been enjoying our time here but dang we have been busy! Seems like we don’t stay still long despite being on vacation. If you can’t tell by my pictures, I have really been soaking in all the beautiful sunrise views. I’ve gotten up before the sun each day no matter how late I stay up. Why? Because it’s my time and the most peaceful hour of the day, hands down!

Since fun was the theme of this week I’m going to start with my week in pictures, get ready it’s a lot!

This campground is huge! They not only have camping sites but also many many beach houses. Some are owned by individuals and some are rentals and they come in every shape and size! It’s like it’s own little city here. The newly added water park is huge and they have lots of beach front as well. One thing we think is funny. We picked this place cause really we could turn our teen loose here and they could come and go inside the campground like they want but all they want to do is stay with us and do what we want to do. Who would have thought that??

We did get out a little and we all played another version of the Escape game. We did not solve the game in time but still had so much fun! We ate really good here mostly cooked at the campground but enjoyed pancakes, hamburgers, steak, scallops and chicken. We’ve met lots of people and it’s really fun talking to them and seeing where they are from. I met a very nice lady from upstate New York who grew up taking vacations here as a child, now she is passing the tradition on to her children. Another thing is you see all kinds of neat gadgets to do with camping! Some of these people do this very regular. They have some pretty elaborate shower systems on the outside of their RV’s for beach camping and let’s not get into the souped-up golf carts! Some of them cost more than my car new!

I did continue my #runstreak every day.  I thought it would be more challenging while staying in the Walmart parking lots but really it was not a big deal. I needed to get my dog out and stretch his legs anyway. I loved the excuse to get up before everyone each day at the campground to run too.  I also rode my bike quite a bit and going back and forth to the water park I did not wear my Garmin so I get a little more than what’s recorded.

I may not have gotten as much sleep but so far I am still going and sleep was very good in my camper. Here is my workout summary below.

I’m not ready for my Summer to end and while officially on the calendar, Fall does not start until September 22 but in a sense, the start of school unofficially ends Summer don’t you think? Well, I’ve still got lots planned between now and then and even after then! No slowing down for us!

What does the end of Summer mean to you? Do you welcome a new routine? Does it even affect you? What are you looking forward to with Fall around the corner? Me, I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures, football and campfires!

I’m going to leave it with you and get back to my family time. I am apologizing for not being able to read and comment on everyone’s blogs this week. It just simply did not work out that way I had planned.  That is a wrap for this edition of Weekly Wrap 52 Myrtle Beach Vacation.

Please be thinking of us as we travel home tomorrow it’s about a 10 hour drive. I’ll see yall next week!

I appreciate them both for supporting our link up as well.

  1. You need to unplug sometimes, for sure.

Last time we were in Kauia, I either ran or walked before the sunrise every single day. It was so beautiful.

Have a great, safe trip home!

MB was a lot of fun, Other than Disney it is the furtherest we’ve traveled in the RV! 675 miles to be exact which with stops and lunch equaled just over 12 hrs. all in one day!
I’m getting too old for that!

  10. Whew! I know you’ve been going non-stop and loving every minute of it. I certainly understand that early morning me time! I sit in my back porch swing with my coffee. Our kids always want to hang with us on trips too! I guess we should be flattered. School does signify the end of summer I think. Just like when it’s over every spring, it signifies the beginning — when it’s not really summer on the calendar. Safe travels my friend.

  11. Wait–the campground is in the Walmart parking lot? If so, must be one heck of a Walmart! Awesome that you are continuing your summer of travel and fun. That’s what’s summer’s all about!

  12. Not motivated to getup before the sun but with views like that I certainly would.

I know how you feel about that “me” time. When I wen to Florida with my 9 girlfriends, I got up early every morning to run just to be by myself.

  17. Looks like another great trip for you and your family! You have had quite the summer. I’m also not ready for it to be over because that means my maternity leave is almost over. 18. School does officially end summer, my kids have three weeks left! Its going to fly by! I do love getting back to a routine and football is what we are most looking forward to. My husband coaches my sons flag football team and we go to some college football games..so much fun! and we know once school starts the days will soon become much cooler!

  19. End of summer doesn’t really affect me. I am seeing back to school stuff in stores, but since I don’t have kids, I don’t have to worry about that. Mostly I just see an increase in traffic on my way to work. August is slow, and I really noticed a difference this morning. I suspect most people are trying to get that last vacation in before school starts.

  20. I’ve always felt the beginning (not the end) of September signifies the end of summer and I do associate that with the school year. But since living in Charleston, I feel like I live in endless summer!

Looks like you had fun in Myrtle Beach – that’s a fun beach town to visit. There’s so much to do! And good job keeping up your run streak.

    • Christine, I felt like I only tipped the bucket of all there is in Myrtle Beach to do. Part of the way we were able to come that far is by staying at the campground and doing the activities there. We did eat out twice for dinner and each time it was over $100 for all of us. It was fun but really makes me wanna come back!

  22. Hope that 10 hour drive is going swimmingly. I agree that sunrise really is such a peaceful bit of the day. And so few people are willing to get up early enough to see it most of the time.

School starting is definitely the unofficial end of summer, but I don’t know that it means much for me in this season of my life. I would say Labor Day brings an end to summer too. Pools start to close up & a lot of the seasonal summer businesses close their doors. Summer ends when the pool is closed & the sno-cone shack is gone.

    • I use to be that exact way I liked my sleep too much. If I saw the sunrise, it was because I had stayed up all night, lol
Yea I had forgot about the pools all close down after Labor day, I’m not sure why here though cause it stays pool-weather until October sometimes even into November!

Loved all of your pictures and I hope you have safe travels back home!

I had to laugh this week when I saw your pic on Instagram running on a parking lot early in the morning – I used to do the same thing during marathon training. It really doesn’t matter where we run as long as we run right?
I don’t want Summer to end either Tricia – even though it’s so hot I’m still enjoying it!

It gets me moving early and I can’t see where it’s taking a toll on my body even running every day because I’m not racking up a lot of mileage ya know.. Thanks Ilka, you too have a great weekend now! 🙂

  28. Your past week looked so like so much fun!!
I can picture you out there running the perimeter of the Wal- mart parking lot. They are usually huge, so great place to make a loop.
I just want fall weather!!! School doesn’t start here until after labor day so it’ll be awhile, but it never feels like fall to me until October when the temps actually drop.

    • It is so odd we start so soon down here! I don’t know why that is either. Growing up we always started the week after Labor Day.
Thinking back to my Walmart parking lot runs, I only had a couple of people do a double take on me. I can only imagine what they were thinking too. Oh well I got her done!
It really doesn’t cool down here until late Sept but seems like when the fair comes to town usually mid October we always have a decent cool snap.

I’m glad you got to experience it and share the vacation with the family. Those pancakes look delicious too!

What a fun vacation. Myrtle Beach is a beautiful place, I ran their marathon a few years back.
Love your new picture widget so creative, loved seeing all the photos from the trip!
I’ve been jealous and living through you this summer on the camping front. Have to say although I did go camping last week. It’s probably been the first summer in most my life where I haven’t been able to go camping every weekend or atleast most of them. But it’s okay, I’ve been gearing up for some big life changes so I try not to let my lack of camping get me down. On the plus side I’ve done a lot of hiking.
So I have to tell ya, (as if my comment isn’t long enough) although I love my paddleboard and stuff. My sister got a couple of Kayak’s and I took one out around a lake for several miles last weekend a few times and it reminded me how much I love them. Before that I had only Kayak’d in oceans, but I just love how smooth and fast they cut through on the lake. No wonder you’ve been enjoying yours so much! I kinda want one now, but the paddleboard is a lot of fun too, its just terrible I want both now, LOL LOL
