Weekly Wrap 65 Racing Again

Woo Hoo, it has been a while since I’ve toed the line at a half marathon race, right at 6 months to be exact! While there have been a few shorter races here and there it hasn’t been many. I was back in New Orleans this weekend and ran in my 19th Half Marathon! What?? 19 really, I still get nervous at each and every one!

Before I get ahead of myself let’s check out what happened or didn’t happen this week as far as activity:

Fall Training Week 7

This was quite a quirky week for me. The plan was to run on Monday,  but it just did not happen! We got home late from our trip and I woke up feeling the effects of too much fun and not enough rest for sure! I did not get too much of a scolding from Coach Ho. Some other things fell apart and Monday just was not a good day anyway you look at it.

I tried to redeem myself come Tuesday when I had a 4-mile progressive run (Target 10:30 / 10:20 / 10:10 / 10:00 and with my head hung in shame, I only got in 3. Womp – womp. After a vehicle creeped me out right after I started my first mile, my pace was way faster than it should have been. I knew I had to try for negative splits and low and behold I DID IT!! 10:03 / 9:56 /9:44 Woop that’s 5k pace for me! The weather was crisp at 46 degrees too so it definitely helped! Oh and Holly did give me a pardon 😉

She wanted me to take a rest from running the rest of the week in light of my race on Saturday so an easy HR 3 mile run was done on Wednesday.

My Weekend

We headed back South to New Orleans on Friday after lunch. We rushed to pick up our race packets and found food. It was quite interesting to see all the people dressed in costume for Halloween activities and I was a bit jealous.

Race Day!

I hope to do a more detailed review later but I did want to hit the high points:

I had a goal in mind of 2:20 and I’m happy to report my official time was 2:20:09. YES! It was 74 when we started with 83% humidity so I will take it.

Jazz Half Marathon and 5K

Again I do love visiting this City. There is so much to see and do away from Bourbon. I hope you follow my Instagram account I do try and post quite a bit, probably too much, while I’m away from home.

Today, (Sunday) we are headed out to snag a Saints game. We got lucky and found some reasonable tickets. After the game we will be headed home. It is an early game so hopefully, we won’t be too late getting in.

    Sorry there was a car that creeped you out. Stay safe ! All the talk on the Runner’s World article this week kind of made me feel uneasy. I NEVER have had a problem here. But I never run in the dark and rarely alone.
    No Halloween racing this weekend, it is not celebrated in France.

  5. Wow, congrats on hitting your goal in the half with that kind of heat! That’s impressive!! I ran a 5k this weekend and probably should have figured out a costume… it definitely makes it more fun, but I was entertained by the ones around me.

    • For some reason Calzones have become my pre race meal. So far so good too! Why fix something that isn’t broken right! Nola is a fun city!

  9. No racing, but I smacked (with the assistance of my running buddy) an 18-miler Sunday morning…negative splits and a final mile that kicked booty. Quite a pleasant surprise because last week’s 16-mile nearly kick MY booty.

    • What a confidence builder to do that great on an 18 miler no doubt!!! I am learning to shoot for negative splits. I really surprised myself last weekend with my half too. Your in Taper now so enjoy it before your big race!

  10. Nothing fun for Halloween other than giving out candy to the kiddies, but I do have something up my sleeve for our annual Thanksgiving Day race! Instead of being a pilgrim this year, I’m going to be an Indian princess. 🙂

    • We got lucky the tickets were not that much either, we looked about a month ago and decided we didn’t want to pay that much and really didn’t think about it again until the day before we left and they were half the price we saw the first time!

  23. Great job, especially in those conditions. I know I would like to do a race in New Orleans at some point, but maybe when it’s not supposed to be too humid. I know it’s going to be humid, so I’ll have to decide when the best time would be.

    • Thank you Ilka, I was afraid I wouldn’t meet my goal after I got up and saw the temp and humidity. I was so determined to beat last year and make Holly proud too!

  28. I’m so proud of you for hitting your time goal and running the miles progressive with negative splits! That takes a lot of patience and practice. The costume turned out really cute too! Whew! You are going to be so busy between now and the end of the year. But, I also know that’s the way you like it. 😉 Enjoy!

    • Yes I do like it that way, all this travel is my cup of tea but it does wear on you. See that’s why I work to pay for it and lordy to rest in between!

  32. I love that you post so much to Insta while you’re on the road!

    Crazy to me that after 19 halfs you still get nervous. But, they’re always kind of a big deal no matter how many you do. I usually only do 1 or 2 each year, but hoping to run more like 4 or 5 next year – seems like if I’m gonna put in a hard training cycle I should race more.
