Weekly Wrap 78 Wrapping Up January

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap 78 Wrapping up January, with just a couple more days January will be in the history books. My husband and I will be packing up our RV and camping gear and will head home later today. We’ve been here for 14 days and other than being in the smack middle of the storms last weekend, I’ve loved every minute.

I felt pretty good about this week in activity. Seems like I’ve finally gotten back into a routine. I ended up running 4 days this week and got in both strength training sessions and you’ll see further down how I faired with my goals so far.

My Weekly Workout Summary, goes something like this:

I hope you didn’t miss my Instagram Video we did of our Wednesday Workout. My trainer, Tammy and I often workout together on leg day because I can hang with her and we stick to about the same weights. Now when it comes to my upper body I’m not anywhere near her but we still have fun together. This week our friend Megan joined us for a pretty badass back and biceps routine. Tammy knows every so often I get her to take pictures to use for my #NeverMissAMonday or #WorkoutWednesday posts. I don’t even get any eye-rolls anymore either. (Wendy, how does Becky feel about you taking pictures?)

So we’re taking some shots and another girl comes in and offers to take some pictures then it was her idea to shoot the video which was received well! It was hard holding still with the weights especially since we were almost done with our workout. (Next time we need to do this BEFORE our actual work)

Since this is the last #WeeklyWrap of January I wanted to do a quick check in with the progress on my goals. For a detailed listing, you can see my Goals for 2017 here.

Fitness and Running

Run – 850 yearly goal and fingers crossed with two more days of January I’ll be right on track.

Run More Races – Only 2 so far 18 is what I did last year so I’ll call it on track.

Run a New State – Not yet, but I’ve got two new ones on the calendar 😉

Mini-Challenges – Well I hit the ground running with the pushups and also the plank challenge, but then I fizzled out. I’ll be re-grouping to add in something this week.

Blogging

Post / Link up More – Totally fell off the wagon on this! Ugggh, I was doing good but added year-end stuff at work had to take precedence over time to blog. I had hoped to have my Louisiana Race Weekend recap up by now and it has not happened.

Connect More – Instagram has been my social media of choice lately. I’ve enjoyed throwing around encouragement and high fives on it.

Personal

Good for the Soul – Since we’ve been at the campground I’ve missed getting up early with my daughter walking or running. We’ve been cooking more and she has joined us most nights but it doesn’t take the place of one on one mother-daughter time. Hopefully, we can get back in that routine.

Planning – I have done better with “planning” in general. I keep a running hand-written to-do list at work and list each of my tasks for the week as they are needed and check off as I go. We also have done much better about planning meals and eating better this past week.

We finally broke down and got us a Pressure Cooker. This has been a game changer for us! So far we’ve cooked a roast, chili and by far the best meal was vegetable soup! Our biggest challenge is the lack of time. While simple planning will elevate this, you also have to make time to plan. This cooker cut not only prep time but also clean up time in half because it’s all in one pot.

I can’t wait to see what we try in it this upcoming week.

Coming up

My next race weekend is coming up and we’ll be in New Orleans for the Rock n Roll Series. I’ve once again persuaded Mr. Sippi into doing the 5k with me on Saturday and then on Sunday while I run my half, he will run a 10k! It will be the longest race he’s ever entered and I’m super proud of him.

Two other races I’ve added to the calendar are both in April, Rock n Roll Raleigh NC and a bucket list race for me, Kentucky Derby Half in Louisville, KY!  Not that I’m trying for every state but this will be two new ones for me as well. Will any of you be at either of these races?

Going to wrap up this Weekly Wrap 78 Wrapping up January post right here. I’ve got clothes to wash and some cleaning to do before we pack up and head home.

  3. Speaking of blogging, I have two linkups this week, Race Linkup (tomorrow) and Wednesday Word. Hope you have time to join us for at least one!

    I love that you take pictures during your workouts. As a trainer, I totally wouldn’t mind if my clients asked me to take a picture as long as they didn’t slack on their workout. Occasionally, I’ll take a short video of them to show them their form and then delete it.

    • Thanks Debbie for the invite. I have got to get back on top of my preplanning blogging game! It is getting the best of me.
      I did not like pictures at the gym at first at all. I went through a phase where I didn’t feel comfortable being there and looking back it was pretty stupid. But I like to see the progress I’ve made and I love to inspire people who were just like me into going.

  6. I’ll be so interested to see how the Kentucky Derby half goes. It’s one I’ve considered for myself — can’t do it this year, though. Right now I have 3 more states scheduled for 2017, maybe a fourth . . . we’re still negotiating. That’s about all the time off Mr. Judy can afford!

    I’ve been writing out a to do list most nights and checking it off at the end of the day (or not, sometimes, but it does seem to help me get stuff done).

    • Oh Jennifer! Go right now and get that Pressure cooker out! Lol I tell you I can’t believe we waited so long. We had spaghetti and meatballs in it last night all one pot and from start to finish 24 minutes and it was on our plate! Well it was so hot it took another 5 minutes for it to cool off so we could eat it!

  9. We love our pressure cooker, too! We often make steel cut oats in there and set the timer so it starts in the morning and is done when we wake up… or homemade chicken broth… or chilis, bean dishes, etc.

  15. I thinking holding an exercise for a photo deserves it’s own exercise name – it can be tough but it’s fun! I don’t spend too much time on IG and the way it’s organized I know I miss posts from my friends if the timing/popularity isn’t just right. :-/

  19. I think I need me one of those pressure cookers! I use my crockpot at least once a week, its so handy to have! I haven’t done any races yet so far… none on the books until March so I am a little jealous of your 2 already 😉 I love the weight lifting picture, so fun to have someone take some pics! Instagram is my social media of choice too although I have been a slacker lately. Twitter overwhelms me.

  24. I don’t have a pressure cooker, but I love my crock pot. I can make a big meal and have leftovers for the week, and very minimal cooking!

  25. I can’t believe we are wrapping up January already either…I loved the little video on Instagram of you and your friends working out the gym!! So cool!! You guys looked great!
    That’s very nice of Mr Sippi to support your running and even challenging himself to a distance he has never covered before!
    A pressure cooker is definitely something I will look into, as well. Anything that cuts time from clean-up!!

  27. I haven’t invested in the pressure cooker quite yet. I have a crockpot and have made some good stew meat and chili, but have only used it once so far to make my pulled buffalo chicken! (so delish)!

  28. The pressure cooker looks like a great investment! I used my slow cooker last night to make some teriyaki chicken…being able to throw ingredients in and forget about it is a life saver but you’re right…finding the time to plan those meals can be a real challenge!

  30. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Derby half. I grew up maybe 1.5 hours from Louisville – and my brother lives there still, so I’d have a free place to stay. Always figured one year I would combine it with a trip to go see the Derby as well, but just haven’t had the timing work out yet.

  32. Those two races you’ve added sound like great ones! I’ve run in NC but not KY. I don’t have a pressure cooker but I do enjoy my crock pot. I love it when supper is ready when I walk in the door. I’ve hired someone finally, so I hope my work stress will improve and I can do more blogging (LOL!).

    I have a pressure cooker and I LOVE it. I use it to make soups, dals, curries, chillis and it makes excellent rice. I’ve even made soya yoghurt in it. What I love is that I can just leave it to do its thing, no standing and stirring. It’s great for anything with dried beans. Have fun using it.

  34. That sunrise is amazing!! I have yet to capture a good one this year…probably not until this summer even! I need to experiment more with my pressure cooker…I got one for Christmas and I have only made chicken in it 🙂

    • I can’t wait for the KY Derby race! Got big plans for that weekend too. There’s a company that drives you around the city stopping at various places to eat and drink not to mention Churchill downs. it lets you taste test places and gives you a history lesson too!
