Weekly Wrap 79 New Orleans Weekend

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap 79 New Orleans Weekend, and what a weekend it was! If you checked in on me I do appreciate it along with all the encouraging comments full of support. I truly appreciate it. I was down in New Orleans running in the Rock n Roll Series races on both Saturday and Sunday and we had a non-stop weekend!

Before I get into the meat of this post, I want to first… THANK YOU for joining us for the Weekly Wrap. This link up is to keep us all accountable in our active life. Training for a race? Just trying to keep active?? Recapping a fun weekend? We want to support you in whatever you do!

I do hope you’ll link up your posts with us, Holly from HoHo Runs and myself here at MissSippiPiddlin each week.

Weekly Wrap

One of my favorite things about staying here at the French Quarter RV Resort

It’s not every RV park we go to that has a Jacuzzi

Weekly Wrap 79 New Orleans Weekend

Back in New Orleans, ahhh. We always have fun here. This has been our 3rd trip since October and we’ll be back in March. It’s not much of a drive and as you can see above the place we stay is very convenient to the attractions and the grounds are very nice! I’ll share some details with you but first, let’s take a look at how active I was this week.

My Weekly Workout Summary, goes something like this:

Weekly Wrap 79 New Orleans WeekendI tried to stay light with my miles this week knowing I had back to back 5k/half marathon this weekend.  I got in quite a bit of walking in New Orleans. Like 20,000 steps on Friday, 30,500 on Saturday and even though I cut off my weekly wrap post on Saturday, here’s a spoiler alert for ya, I got in right at 35,000 steps on Sunday and that’s with traveling home! Can you say exhausted? I sure can! I will surely be dragging in the rear this week.

So let’s get to the fun stuff

In true “Sippi” style, we got off work on Thursday and hit the road in our RV. We stopped a couple hours away to eat and visit the Academy store. We spontaneously just decided to stay in that city for the night. We weren’t able to get into the campground until noon anyway on Friday and it was just over an hour left of traveling.

Friday we woke up to light rain hitting the roof of the RV I guess about 5:30, so I rolled right on over and  I can say that hour and a half of sleep was just fabulous! After getting a few things in Walmart, we made our way to New Orleans, got checked in the RV resort, hooked up and headed to the Royal Oyster House for oysters and mimosas.

Jackson Square

We meandered our way to the Expo to pick up our bibs for the races. Then back out we went, stopping at another favorite restaurant called Port of Call off Esplanade. They have the best burgers but they are huge so we split one. Oh and if you drink, try the Monsoon! It’s stiff but good!

We always try to walk through the French Quarter Market. You will see all kinds of street vendors with both food and items. Each day is different too. They have a place that makes homemade crepes and the possibilities are endless. I love the peanut butter, Nutella and Banana with a shot of honey I say! Very, very good!

We then walked the Riverwalk and went inside the shops to look around. This time we stopped at a wine store and ended up spending way more than expected for a single bottle of Port wine.

Our night was winding down as we went back to the RV and called the Italian Meat Pie restaurant for delivery. They come inside the park and deliver right to your door. A nice relaxing dip in the jacuzzi with a glass of wine and that’s how we spent our Friday.

Saturday 5k Race Day

We were up early to get to City Park where the 5k was. It was cooler than I had expected and I’m very glad I brought a jacket as I kept it on 3/4 of the race before I tied it to my waist.

Look who I saw: Katherine from I Run this Life

As you see above, I caught up with Katherine ( I run this life ) and I met Carey IG: @Apazwife for just a moment. Don’t you hate when you meet people but don’t really have time to chat? Greg and I ran with Katherine but we lost her at the finish line. It was very nice to visit with her as we had a relaxed pace and were able to chit chat the whole time. She was doing the full on Sunday. Look her up on Instagram too!

First race of the weekend is done!

If happened to be keeping up with me on Instagram (And I hope you were) you know we headed to the Ruby Slipper for coffee, yet again mimosas and this wonderful peanut butter stuffed french toast! Holy cow this stuff was so good!

We relaxed for a few hours back at the RV as our friends Ricky and Jodi were headed this way. (If you are not following them on IG you are seriously missing something! Everything they do is an adventure! We always have such a great time with them and they both keep me in stitches!

We walked to the expo (seriously how long is the convention center in New Orleans??) We mainly browsed around while they looked and visited the vendors. I tried to go ahead and sign up for the RnRNola 2018 but they were out of T-shirts on Saturday! What?? Well poo, there went my incentive to sign up so early!

Grilled Shrimp PoBoy

We ate an early supper at Mulates not far from the convention center. It was a good place with quite a bit of cajun flair and variety. Then, we went to the Riverwalk Mall, did you know they have a Cafe Du Monde in there? Yup and their line isn’t near as long as the one on Jackson Square. I tell you these details so if you visit you have a better idea of some of the places to eat, drink and fun things to do in the city.

Beignets & Coffee Au Lait

We actually turned in early according to our standards as we had to be up early for our Sunday races. Even though I could go ahead and tell you how today went, I’ll keep with tradition and close it here.

I hope you have a wonderful week coming up!!!! I hope I’ll have some time to get caught up on a few of these race recaps! How many am I behind on?? Where does the time go???

Ever had Coffee Au Lait? It’s coffee with hot milk added, not cold milk, hot milk. I learned about it in Baton Rouge and it is good!

Did you race this weekend? Need a LA race? How about looking into the Best Damn Race in March right here!

  14. Rainy days are perfect to veg out. Too bad the last one happened when I was at work 🙁 Can’t veg when I have things to do. NO would be a great place to just eat, but I know I’d have to run to work that all off.

  15. That peanut butter French toast looks like the bomb!

  17. I’ve been to NOLA once and I loved it! Wish I could have gone this weekend, but work called. We were at the expo though! Did you see the Fit2Run booth?

I wanted to do BDR NOLA because I do all the ones in Florida and they are awesome races. I just didn’t have the ability to travel that weekend. Definitely picking a NOLA race next year though! With all the IG posts from the people I follow about that weekend I’m getting jealous! Plus beignets (I never know if I spell that correctly or not).

    • I did visit the Fit2Run booth, in fact my husband bought some Hoka’s there, among other things! I wish we had a fit2run store near me they always have so much stuff!
I can’t wait to run in a BDR I too have heard so many good things about their races. I will be curious to see how different they are from the RnR series.

  18. The Cafe Au Lait sounds good and that grilled shrimp po boy looks delicious! I rarely see them would grilled shrimp but I would love that, seems like a healthier option and grilled shrimp is really good if it’s done right. Fried shrimp po boys can be too greasy to me.

Congrats on the 5K! I like that there was a 5K on a different day so you could do it to earn an extra medal and do a shakeout run before the half.

Thanks for bringing us the weekly wrap each week and the linkup!

  19. So jealous! I love New Orleans – I have only been one time and could have lived on po’ boys and beignets. And cocktails, but that’s another story LOL!

I can’t wait to hear about the rest of the weekend! You looked so happy and like you were having so much fun!

  20. New Orleans is one place I would like to visit again – the RNR half would be a good race to run. Looks like you and your husband had an awesome runcation. Definitely plenty of good eats in New Orleans!

  21. That does look like a nice RV park (or at least the hot tub area..lol). Don’t RnR races always give the best 5K medals? They are huge! Congrats. Thanks for the link up!

    • I think the 5k medal was way better than the half one! But that guitar for the re-mix challenge topped both of them in my opinion!
It’s great races are starting to have shorter distances along with longer ones. I don’t think my hubs would have started back running if it wasn’t’ for some of them.

  22. It sounds like another fun and successful weekend in NOLA. It looks like you may have Greg hooked on races! That looks like a very nice RV place. Do you have to reserve your spot far in advance? I really like the 5k medal, maybe even better than the half! I look forward to reading your half marathon recaps.

  23. Your trip looks like so much fun! I was in New Orleans last fall for work and its such a fun city. Id love to do a race there someday!

  26. OMG that french toast looks amazing! I’m going to have to look that up for next month (although Mr. Judy is trying to get Groupons for like everything, which I appreciate, but I keep pleading to leave in some spontaneity!).

A jacuzzi in your RV park? AND meal delivery? Swoon. Awesome.

I do know about the Cafe du Monde in the Riverwalk . . . the only time we were in NOLA was for a conference for me and our hotel was adjacent. Of course we visited the original, too.

I’ll take some cool for our race . . . just race morning, please. Otherwise I need all.the.sun!
