Weekly Wrap Weekend in Bay St Louis

Do you notice all the Rest days??? Nothing to be alarmed about but after back to back hilly half’s the past two weeks I felt like I needed to take some extra time away from running. (You know. trying to be really smart about it) Even though I had a race on Saturday it was 7 miles and I did take it easy. Heck, I figured I’d be running anyway on Saturday might as well get something for it right? I’ll get to what I didn’t get a little later in the post!

During the week

Nothing out of the norm to report here. It was busy at work and most evenings I came home exhausted and curled up on the couch for some tv time after supper.

Getting the Weekend Started

I worked a full day on Friday and them some. I couldn’t have been more ready to get my weekend started.

The hubs was loaded up and ready to pull the RV out when I got home. We stopped to eat and got a few necessities at Walmart. It was 11:30 before we made it to the RV park.

Then we had to go up to the casino and actually check in (different from the last time we were here) and wait for the attendant to come open the power box. By the time I laid down to set my alarm for the morning it said I had 3 hrs and 40 mins before it went off. Ugggh

Race Day

I littered felt like I just shut my eyes but I was anxious to get up and running. We got ready and made it to the race to pick up our packets and get our instructions for the relay. I had first leg and was to run 7 miles and the hubs finished us out with the 6.1 to the finish.

Right before gun time of 7AM sharp they loaded up the second leg participants to take them to the transition station. I thought it was odd since they had plenty of time. It wasn’t until after he left that I realized I didn’t get the first pre race picture.

I walked to the start and we were off. We run about a mile before hitting the bridge. I felt strong and relaxed. This was my break between running 4 halfs so I did not want to try to overdo it. The transition was right after the bridge and I got to see the hubs standing there waiting on me but it was on the way back when my leg would be finished.

At the start it was a nice 57 degree but it warmed up quick and miles 4 and 5 were heading into the direct sun and it didn’t feel like wind. As soon as I turned around to come back I immediately felt the nice breeze and I could see.

This was nice I wasn’t pushing I wasn’t breathing heavy although my HR always shows different. I was just enjoying the run. Up and over the long bridge and I see my partner waiting. I gave him a kiss wished him a great race and in less than 5 minutes was on the bus back to the start.

Contrary to what the pre race email said we did get medals. We were both pretty bummed about that going into this but I’m glad they had enough or changed their minds. It’s always nice to receive something.

I got to do what hubby usually does while I’m out running. I got to be his cheering squad and it was great fun. I prayed for him to have a good race and finish strong and he did!! PR for him.

Our team came in 2:15:57 oh and our team name was “Broke Down With No Jack” for the time we spend 6 hrs waiting on Roadside assistance because the guys they sent didn’t have a jack big enough for the RV.

We also got second place trophy. There were only two teams and I’m pretty proud of us. We were running against a couple with one in the marines and the female was in her early 30’s.

I got to meet Pam Pitts from South MS!!!!

We hung around a bit they had pizza, pasta and delicious cookies along with beer. But we couldn’t wait to get back to this neat little restaurant just a block or so away.

It was called Butter Cup and it’s in a cute little yellow house. We filled up on breakfast food and had entertainment from a group of women that had ran the half.

Back at the RV we walked to the beach for some medal pictures and I had some mimosas. We got showers and there may have been a nap involved too.

Because you can’t be serious all the time!

We got back out and ate oysters, hush puppies and cheese sticks at Cuz’s Oyster Bar.

Weekly Wrap 85 Weekend in Bay St LouisThen found this book store / coffee shop overlooking the water. Where I got to enjoy Café Au Lait and cheesecake.

Doesn’t this look nice?

We spent the rest of the night relaxing in the RV and finishing the American Horror Story season on Netflix. Why, cause we can!

Best Damn Race – New Orleans. They did have some half marathon spots left…just saying. 🙂 I’ve been looking forward to this race for months now. It does have great swag!!! Not only will I get to see my girl Mary Beth but I’ll also be back with the dynamic duo of “Jack and Diane” aka Ricky and Jodi and even Erica. AAAAnd I get to introduce them all to my friend Tammy. It is going to be an epic weekend for sure!

Be sure to keep up with me on Instgram to see just what we’re getting into. That is going to do it for me for this week’s Weekly Wrap 85 Weekend in Bay St Louis

I hope you have an awesome week!

Got a totally random question, ever heard of cryotherapy?? I stumbled upon a new place on the coast that does this cold therapy. Supposed to be beneficial to recovery among other things. I’m thinking like ice bath except not getting wet. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

Anyone else going to be in New Orleans this weekend?

  7. Congratulations on your race and a super fun weekend! Love the medals and that you showed the race with your husband, plus you guys ate some really delicious looking food (that’s the best part of travelling- finding places to run and places to eat). The oyster bar food and the breakfast look good!

Glad you were safe this week with taking it easy but still did some running and legs. Always better safe than sorry and we all need a break. I wish I’d taken one in the two years I was injury-free, maybe if I had I wouldn’t be hurt now.

Thanks for doing the linkup each week too!

Hush puppies and grits are two of my favorite foods, eating them is definitely a special occasion, since they’re not so easy to find up North!

  9. Sounds like a great weekend! My running group did an educational event at a cryro therapy place.. i’ve been intrigued ever since!

  21. I have been in a couple races that had a relay option, it seems appealing but I have yet to try one. Did the pre-race e-mail say “sorry, we will not have enough medals?” That would surely be a bummer if that was something that you expected. I finished a race where they ran out of medals…but they were mailed to us within a week or so… You always have a great time in New Orleans 🙂 Enjoy!

    • The pre race email said there medals would only be given out to the half marathon finishers not the 5k nor the relay. But I guess they had enough, I’m very glad! It was just the opposite, I didn’t expect to get one. Course this email was sent only days before.

  22. Love the green running outfit Tricia! Looks super cute on you! Congrats on another race for your hubby – so weird that they ran out of medals….
Your yearly race schedule is truly impressive!
Have a great week and thanks for all your support Tricia!!

    • Green is my color, well not my favorite, Red is my favorite but some say redheads can’t wear red very well.
This season schedule is CRAZY, what was I thinking? If I can get through 2 more half’s I will have done something! 🙂

  23. What a fantastic weekend!! Congratulations on the relay awards!! I love all the pictures of your getaways!

  25. Great job on the race! Your photos from Sunday are beautiful. Sort of related to your post-race photos …I found a restaurant in our new town that makes the most amazing mimosas and they’re only $6 for a giant glass. I’ll definitely be back. 😉 Have a great week!

  26. How fun! A 2-person relay team with the hubs! And a 2nd place finish 😉

  27. My chiropractor’s office in Dallas does cryotherapy, though I never did it. I don’t like being cold, but I know many patients did it.

    • After I read more about cryotherapy, that was exactly why I decided not too. Now this may be doable when it’s 90 outside at 6am in the morning! Maybe I’ll wait until then!

  28. I am one of those new people who found your linkup from other linkers 🙂

    Congrats on your races!

  32. Hahaha! I’ve got to say it …is there such a thing as “light leg day” when Tammy is involved?!? I’m going to have to remember this race as a possibility for Jason and I next year!
