Weekly Wrap 89 Camping Again

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap 89 Camping Again. Like the title says, I’m camping again and were trying out a new campground. Same lake just different campground. My beloved campground we always go to is still closed, due to flooding but we went across the lake to higher ground to camp so I’m all good. I think we like it because we already booked for awhile.

Weekly Wrap 89 Camping Again

I was glad to get back to my more normal routine this past week. I admit I may have been somewhat excited to get back to leg day too. With an easy week the previous week, I’m a few miles off of my goal for this month. I’m not too worried about it but I’ll try and make it up maybe with some shorter runs.

Another small feat in the weights this week, there is a particular one-arm exercise I could not finish the 3 sets on. I’d get in a few reps and it would just be too difficult to lift on my own. I do have a shoulder limitation that I really need to get checked out but haven’t yet. Well, this week I was able to lift all three sets totally by myself! I have to say it felt great to actually see measurable progress!

With camping in a new place, it also means new views to capture. This one greeted me as I was pulling in our first night here. I also got to enjoy new routes to run here, although this campground does have quite the hills. I guess that is a good thing. It will be fun for a while exploring it.

We had friends join us for this weekend as well. We had great conversations over the campfire and we cooking camp food. Planning what were going to cook was about as much fun as eating it. We also purchased crawfish and shrimp by the pound for a Relay for Life fundraiser and cooked our own fixings to go with it. We had a big time. I don’t eat crawfish but I ate my share of the boiled shrimp!

It was such a nice relaxing weekend and just what I needed.

Coming up

One more weekend before I’ll run my last half of the season and they just released the medals too!

How cool are these? Not really sure what I have planned for this weekend, but I do have a local 5k I’m thinking about entering.

  1. I hope you like your new camping spot as much as your previous favorite spot that’s now flooded. That sunset picture is gorgeous, and so is that medal! To answer your questions, yes, I keep track of how much weight I lift so I can track my improvement.

  2. It does sounds like a nice relaxing camping weekend was just what you needed! That Kentucky race will be so much fun, I am jealous! Easter here was very nice and of course it is nice when I get my kids together! Great job on the arm exercises! I know what you mean, I can see some progress with my ActivMotion bar workouts and my form is getting better too, it is the little things! Have a great week!

    • I’ve been babying this thing for some time now. Then I decided it wasn’t getting any better doing that so I just started lifting what I could with it. Jury is out on if I’m doing more damage or not but it does seem to be better.

  7. I’m so excited for you arm progress! I have wimpy arms and it’s always fun to see progress. Of course, I’m pretty terrible about keeping track of my weights, but then again, I don’t really do much training with weights. LOL.

  8. Looks like such a gorgeous spot! I hope to do more camping as the girls get a little bigger. As for weights, I’ve been adding in more strength work again but I don’t do a lot of heavy lifting right now. It wears me out too much for distance when I’m training for a half or further, but I am really enjoying it!

  10. I love that you get out camping so much. I hope you enjoy the new site! Those medals are really cool!! My next race is an 8k and half marathon in a month or so, so I have some time before my next medal arrives. I don’t lift weights – but i should!

  11. That’s some serious bling! The guy who helped me with my shoes (last weekend) said he was running the Kentucky Derby Marathon! Don’t I feel pretty wordly…knowing two runners who are gonna be there πŸ˜‰ I don’t keep track of my max on weights because I’m mainly just “maintaining” and not trying to achieve anything new. I did notice my arm sleeves felt tight on my biceps this weekend, though….

    • I have wanted to run this race ever since I knew I could do a half! My family still rides in barrel races and for awhile it was our total weekend life so running around all the great horse farms in KY is a dream of mine!

    • There are only some things I remember when I started the weights. One was bench pressing the bar alone. It’s still like 45 lbs or maybe 55 lbs and I could not do it alone. Now I can get through 3 sets with about 20lbs added. I love seeing progress!

    Glad you had a good week of running and lifting and also fun at the campground. It’s gotta be neat to wake up to that view and to run in different places, too. I do lift and do a class called BodyPump, and I try to keep up with the weight I lift and increase occasionally, to a point. Of course, running is my #1 priority so I’m lifting to become a better runner before anything else like becoming “good” in the weight room. I do feel like a lot goes into the amount of weight you lift like stress, nutrition, time of day, etc. It’s just like running in that way, so you can’t always compare what you lifted one session to the next… you just have to look at trends!

    • I feel like since I added weights I’ve done my body good even in the running department and running is my first priority but during the summer when I’m not racing, I have really enjoyed trying to lift more!

  19. I was doing Bodypump until some I got a pain in my shoulder. I tried so hard to keep track of my weights, but that class just moves too fast for me to remember anything! Someday, I’ll get the hang of it.

    • I have heard it is fast-paced! I use to take a HIIT class with weights and I really enjoyed it. It was different from my strength training sessions where it’s about form. The HIIT class was about getting in as many reps as possible and feeling the burn!

  20. That’s a beautiful view from your new campground! I hope you enjoy it as much as your old one. I ate boiled shrimp a couple of times last week. So good! Those are great medals. I didn’t realize that was your last half for the season. Can you believe how warm it is already? UGH.

    • Yes ma’am and actually I’m looking forward to some down time. Not that I won’t be running in fact I’m looking forward to running more often just less miles each time. πŸ™‚
      This new to me campground is growing on me. Can you believe we are staying a whole month?

  22. Glad you had a great week back in your routine and relaxing at the camp site! Best of luck in Kentucky! I really wanted to train and run the marathon but we are a busy family. A spring marathon would be really hard for me but I’m planning on running MS Gulf Coast in the fall. I think I’m ready! I do not lift weights anymore and teach body weight strength training in my class. Hope you have another great week!

  26. I do lift – right now it’s more for fun and cross training to supplement my running. But I have a pretty good base in my mind of how much I can lift. Honestly, some mornings I surprise myself, good OR bad. So it is exciting to have a day where I can lift more, or do more reps.

  27. What a gorgeous sunset view! It sounds like the perfect weekend.

    I don’t lift. I tend to do HIIT, barre, yoga and paddleboarding as my running alternatives. I’ve thought about trying lifting, but I think I need a trainer to make sure I do it right.

  28. Measurable progress is ALWAYS awesome! πŸ™‚ I don’t keep track of what I lift, but I do like to keep track of the number of exercises I can do – pushups, burpees, etc.

  30. Beautiful sunset view! I actually took my girls to the beach yesterday so we can watch the sunset. With weight lifting, I loosely keep track of how much I lift so I can see if I’m progressing. Sounds like another fun camping trip for you πŸ™‚

  31. I love the half medal design – sounds like a fun one! We did have a great Easter driving back from a race in the cities… More so it was wonderful to check out a new church and then drive HOME, back to small-town land. I suppose I should get in to lifting again – I like lifting light weights (like 8 to 10 lb. dumbbells) throughout pregnancy. Those squats sure help delivery πŸ˜‰

  32. I am looking forward to get out camping this year also. Just waiting for the snow to melt and a tad warmer weather. Love being in the outdoors though! Good that you are getting some weights in and progressing. I just can’t seem to find the time. I’ll make it a goal for this week!

    • If I didn’t pay my trainer and she wasn’t expecting me to show up I’m afraid I wouldn’t be so disciplined.

    And that medal is the cutest thing! I wish I was able to get up there and earn that particular piece of bling!

    Easter was ok. A little rushed and hectic, but we made it work.

    I’ve got my sprint tri this weekend, so I’m mildly freaking out. I’m sure it will be fine, but I never do well with something new.
