Weekly Wrap 99 Monsoon by Cindy

As you can see I’m still keeping with the water theme. The first week was “Thow me a Rope” as I felt like I was sinking fast. I followed that up with “Treading Water“, where it seemed to get a little better. Last week I was still floating. That brings us to this week’s Monsoon by Cindy.

In case you missed it Tropical Storm Cindy while she never materialized into a full on hurricane. She packed a pretty swift punch with all the rain she brought with her. At times she wasn’t so sure she wanted on shore and simply sat stationary out in the Gulf. Her bands of rain though continued from the West coast of TX all the way through the FL panhandle.

While I could have run in the rain I use her as an excuse as to why I didn’t.

Weekly Activity

Not a stellar week in activity, by no means but it wasn’t a total Wipeout.
Sunday – rest
Monday – Run 3 Miles and Leg day
Tuesday – Run 3 Miles
Wednesday – chest and tri’s at the gym
Thursday – nothing
Friday – nothing
Saturday – Run a 5k

Let The Weekend Begin

We weren’t sure with Cindy’s arrival what would happen this weekend. We’ve had plans with friends of ours to camp and enjoy the boat out on the River. The first part of the week did not look too good but we decided we’d just go and make the best of it.

It rained and actually delayed us getting here on Friday but after that it turned out to be a nice weekend. Here’s the summary of my weekend in pictures.

Dinner in town since it was late when we arrived

Saturday we were signed up to do a Color Run here in Columbus but due to Cindy’s unpredicted weather, it was canceled. Womp, Womp! I got in a 5k then we hit the water!

Pontooning on the River

And that’s how my weekend went! I hope Cindy didn’t mess up your plans!

Tell me, if you were signed up for a race and it was canceled, did you fell obligated to do the distance anyway?

What plans do you have for July 4th? Can you believe it’s right around the corner?

An InLinkz Link-up

  1. Im glad that Cindy didnt interfere too much with your weekend, but its unfortunate that your race was cancelled! I think I would still run the distance as long as the weather was ok.

  2. It’s always a win when you step out and connect with nature. Bummer your 5k got cancelled. But, you didn’t give up and got it done.

  3. Glad you had a decent camping weekend and fun on the boat! We don’t do much on the 4th of July – we live too near DC and the traffic around here gets insane. We just hunker down at home.

  4. Glad Cindy didn’t keep you down to long!

I’ve never had a race canceled yet. I have a race on the fourth but that’s it for our plans. Lola’s noise sensitive, although oddly fireworks don’t usually seem to bother her. Still, we don’t like to leave the dogs alone. So it’ll be very low key as usual. Maybe another small hike if the weather cooperates.

  5. Bummer about Cindy but at least she didn’t mess up your entire weekend! I love how much boating you do!! I’ve been lucky to never had a race changed due to weather but if probably want to run anyway!!

  6. Typically if a race is cancelled due to weather, I wouldn’t bother to run the distance. However, when the half marathon in Disney was cancelled in January and I was running the Dopey Challenge, I did feel a little obligated to get some miles in to really earn that challenge medal!
I can’t believe it’s nearly July, but I’m looking forward to finding some local fireworks to watch!

  7. Glad the weather didn’t ruin your weekend! Did the Color Run give refunds? Or deferments for next year? There are some races I wouldn’t have minded being canceled!

  8. Summer is all about having some fun! You are on it! 🙂 I can’t believe July 4th is right around the corner! I am running a 5K that offered a pancake breakfast- LOL! I hate to miss a good pancake! Keep enjoying the sunshine and stay dry!

  9. I’m sorry to hear that your race was canceled, but it certainly doesn’t look like Cindy interfered with the rest of your weekend. You all look so happy and relaxed out on the water.

  10. I’ve never had a race cancelled but of course, I would run the miles!!

Too bad about the rain but you are always making the best of your weekends.

As you can tell, I love boating!!!! Bering on or near the water is the best!!!!

  11. Several years ago my husband and I were signed up for a marathon and the company went bankrupt about three weeks before the race and canceled it (keeping our money). Anyway, I ran 26.2 miles around the time that the race was supposed to be. My friends even made me a finisher’s certificate! LOL

I’m running a race (Firecracker 5K) on the morning of Independence Day – my fifth year in a row!

    Thank you for the linkup!

  12. Cindy didn’t have too much of an affect on us in Houston. Too bad your race was canceled… I’ve had a half canceled, it stinks… but at least they called that one the night before.

  13. I’m glad you had a great week, got some workouts in, and enjoyed being on the boat. That’s the best place to be in the summer, besides in a pool somewhere! I’m glad TS Cindy wasn’t TOO terrible and just rain, but tropical storms and hurricanes can def. put a damper on running and other plans (as Matthew did last year for us). Have a great week!

  14. Did you get a refund for the race? I know most races are strict about their registrations.. but if it was mother natures that kept you from running, it would make sense to reschedule or issue refunds, right?

The one race that I couldn’t do, because of the weather, I still ran the distance… I had trained for all summer, and was not going to just sit at home being sad.

  15. We have been getting a lot of rain lately in our part of Texas. It gets kind of annoying, but it cools things off, so I don’t mind too much!

  16. I guess if I still get a race t-shirt or swag, then I feel like I need to run the distance even if the race is cancelled! Hey, you did the 5k anyways – way to go! We have actually been in a somewhat drought this spring/summer. Maybe a little rain would be okay to send up here. Just a little! It seems like we’re either all or nothing – fields too dry or they’re flooding!

  17. Oh I’m so glad you all still got to enjoy the water with some fun and fabulous boating! And good for you for getting that 5k in rain or shine!

Hope this week is smooth sailing and flies by for you! 🙂

  18. Cindy got the memo that she was not welcomed here. If a race is cancelled then I just go home and move on. 🙂

I have a race on July 4th and hopefully someone will invite us over for a cookout. That day is special in our family because it was on that day in 1978 that we arrived my Mexico and made Chicago our permanent home. I was 5 years old and still remember seeing the Sears Tower (Willis Tower).

  19. I think you won out…a weekend at the river sounds nicer than a stormy 5K! We’re going to the Oregon coast for the 4th. I’ve never been, so excited.

  20. Rain, rain, go away!!!! The rain has been constant all month, but last week was pretty bad–and just in time to put a damper on my first trail race (pun intended!)

  21. Glad the weather didn’t ruin your weekend. Too bad about the race – will they give you a refund? For the first time in a couple of years, I don’t have a race planned for the 4th. Don’t know what we’re going to yet.

  22. Glad Cindy didn’t keep you from all of your boat time 😉 I would also do the race distance (on my own) if the race got cancelled. Cindy be damned!

  23. I’m glad you were still able to get out and about in spite of the storm. We’re going to a July 4th event at the South Carolina Aquarium for the holiday. I can’t wait! We’ll have a great view of the fireworks over the harbor and B will be thrilled to be at the aquarium. I’m not sure if I’ll race this year or not (I’m leaning towards not). It’s just so hot and humid and I’m not in racing condition right now at all!

  24. I’m so glad Cindy didn’t mess up your plans! She didn’t mess up mine, but something did–tons of rain. Come on man! We’re having a cool, rainy summer. But we are pushing through…
