Weekly Wrap #17 Florida Vacation

Hello from the happiest place on earth, yes I am in Disney World right now! In fact this is our last night here, I know I’m sad too; so we are soaking as much in as we can. Welcome to the Week Wrap Florida Vacation.

I’m so excited you are here. If you did not know, Holly from Ho Ho Runs and I are giving away $75 gift card in a few weeks and it is just for our friends who join us in the Weekly Wrap. So If you haven’t already, make sure you get your posts ready and link with us because who couldn’t use $75 just in time for Christmas, right?

I’m getting right to my week. We make a trip to Florida this time every year to visit family! This is our second year taking the RV and we have family in Jacksonville, then on Friday we head down to Orlando and stay at a Disney resort until Monday morning when we make the very long trip home.

We left town after lunch and hit the road. This time around we decided to take a longer, but different route. We went through Atlanta and stayed overnight just south of Atlanta in a Walmart parking lot. In case you’ve never heard of this, it does have a name in the RV world and it’s called boondocking. Which is dry camping, using the self-contained (generator) system on board the RV.

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

Some Walmarts actually encourage this where more times than not the RV’ers always need something from their store. This is pretty much the case for us ALL the time! We always forgot something or need something for our trip.

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

We drive on into Savannah to enjoy the day and eat lunch. My husband and I want to come spend the weekend here so we thought this would be great to scope it out. It is such a beautiful city. I took my good camera, but I can not get it to connect to my new laptop. I’m so disappointed too! 🙁

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

We arrived later that night and after eating supper, crashed.

Today started early for me as I had already found me a running store and since it was within 7 miles, I simply jumped on my bike and rode to the store. I also was going stir crazy for spending pretty much 2 inactive days except for the walking we did in Savannah.

I also got fitted again and had my gait reevaluated too. I think it is important to do this from time to time especially since I haven’t been running to long. I think things could change and I want to know I’m still buying the correct shoes. My ankles have gotten stronger an I don’t need the full stability shoes I once did. I can get away with a lighter version of support.

I ended up getting a new pair. Which were very comfortable right out of the box! I also got a few more ideas to look for, ya know when I can save up some more money.

Today as a family tradition, we all went to the grocery store to buy food for Thanksgiving. Then we ate out and came back home to start preparing some of the things we could do early.

I had my longest run to date, 18 miles on the schedule for next weekend but since we’re going to be in Disney, I had to get it done early. As another tradition, I have been running on Thanksgiving so I did my 18 today.

I tried my inexpensive hydration pack again, during my half it leaked, but the hubs fixed it. 🙂 Thank goodness he knows how to fix things! It did great today and was so needed. It didn’t even slosh as much and really was quite comfortable. It was warmer, I started out about 6:45 just enough light out and it was 65 already with 80% humidity.

I took it real slow. I had a light breakfast, toast with PB and about 6 oz of coffee. During my run, I had a mini snickers, (thanks, Katie) Honey stinger waffle, 1 GU, and one pack of Honey Stinger energy gummies. I walked while I got my food out but after 13 miles I scheduled a few seconds walk. All in all my pace was better than I expected and my knee…. I am very happy to report did not give me one bit of problems.

While at the running store I did purchase a IT Band strap, since I had issues with it before. I had not done this because I didn’t want to jinx it. Do you ever do that?

weekly wrap florida vacation

Honestly, I don’t know if that is what did it or not but hey I don’t really care! I have been foam rolling pretty much every night as well so maybe the combination of everything.

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

We had a feast for Thanksgiving and had a house full too! I ate way too much, but I sure did enjoy it. Even enjoyed some cornhole too.

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

Tonight was very relaxed and we packed up what we could, food included and we take it to Disney with us.

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

Disney bound early. It’s a couple hours drive. Then we get checked in and eat lunch in the parking lot because it’s before we can get into our rooms, but once we get our tickets we head to the parks.

We had a great time hitting up the Magic Kingdom first. In fact, we stayed there until it closed I think it was 1 AM.

Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation

Back up and hitting Hollywood Studios today. We rode the roller coasters. Tower of Terror is my favorite and the Rock n Roll is always a favorite. We stayed there most of the day then met everyone at Epcot for dinner. We rode Soarin, then Test Track and watched the laser light show and fireworks!!!

By the time you’re reading this, we have been going strong for the third day. We get up early and stay late every day! We take in enough Disney to last us until this time next year! Today we’re going to Animal Kindom first, then well there is no telling. I’m sure we’ll be out until the last parks closes again. There is never enough time to do all you want to do! We always discover new places and things we want to do too.

But hey, I get to be back here in just over a month.

I’m going to leave it with you and get back to the Disney experience! I’ve been pretty good about posting on Instagram so you may want to check it out.

That is going to do it for the Weekly Wrap Florida Vacation Edition. 🙂

I will get to reading everyone’s posts, but it may take me a bit longer.  Tomorrow we will be on the road all day, so once again I would appreciate you thinking of us during this time!

Have a great rest of your weekend and a great week!

  1. Good job getting the 18 miles in on Thanksgiving! Awesome. That’s really impressive. I think I would like RVing but I’ve never tried it. It’s on my to do list.

IT Band syndrome is terrible. I ran my first and third marathons battling it. Mine finally went away when I started doing 2 things. 1 strength work. It is directly related to weak glutes and supporting muscles … not fun but true. I know you already do strength work so I bet you are pretty strong. Look up the Mirtle routine on you tube it’s not hard but it loosens up your hip flexors and gets your glutes to fire. Second thing I did was find a chiropractor who helps me keep my hips aligned. It may be hocus pocus but it works for me.

    • Amy I am looking up the Mirtle routine now! Thanks for that! And on the chiropractor, whatever works right? I really can’t believe I did not have any problems on my 18 miler, I’m so thankful too. Disney would not have been fun!

  2. Looks like you are having a great trip! That’s smart to get your gait checked again. I haven’t tried a new brand of shoes in a few years. Maybe my off-season is the time to do that. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Your RV adventures make me want to RV!!!

The Walmart by me allows RV parking (didn’t realize that until reading your post) there are always 2-5 RVS parked in the lot.

Disney looks like so much fun. We are considering taking the kids next year. They will be 6 and 8. We will see.

    Safe travels home!

    • Tamieka getting this RV was about the best decision we’ve made! I truly love it and it has brought us closer as a family! Funny how a small space will do that! Disney would be perfect for your kids then. I hope you get to make a trip soon!!

  7. Glad you’ve been enjoying your vacation, and awesome that you knocked out an 18-miler! What a nice way to spend Thanksgiving overall–enjoying running and family time! I used to hate foam rolling, but I started doing it every day and I now swear by it for injury prevention. Safe travels home!

But it’s all a little scary right now, you know? Congratulations on your 18 mile run! You are getting so close now. Just a few more weeks. Safe travels on your way home. If you are anything like me, you’ll need a vacation to get over your vacation! Have a good week.

Let’s see today is Thursday, yes ma’am I so need a vacation from my vacation. Just now making real progress on getting caught up on reading my favorite blogs!

  10. What a blast it sounds like you guys are having. The only time I was in that area of Florida, I think I missed Disney World but I remember a super cool Aerosmith Roller Coaster ride..MGM? Anyhow, I’ve always thought it’d be fun to travel by RV but have yet to do so. That is extra awesome that you got in 18 miles on Thanksgiving day. You have had a very active holiday week!
Diane recently posted…Thanksgiving Weekend WrapMy Profile

    • The Rock n Roller coaster is Aerosmith’s ride! The park is now called Hollywood Studios but yes it’s the same and that ride is amazing! I can’t believe I even hesitated with the purchase of our RV, I have had so much fun it it and we’ve been able to go places we wouldn’t normally be able to go. If you plan you can save some money!

MB we always say we’re going to do this or do that while at Disney but never have enough time to do it all! I thought about you while I was in Epcot! We always eat at the main restaurant in with Soar and Living with the land, Sunshine something or other, and I know there as so many great places to eat in there!

  18. Yay for you, getting to go to Disney! I’ve probably told you, our family is a huge Disney family. I’m glad we’ve been able to take the kids there several times 😉 The Rock n Rollercoaster is da bomb! Tower of Terror is pretty legit as well.

Also, I totally agree with getting fitted for shoes each time you need new shoes, and being open to trying new things. I uses to work in a shoe store, and know first-hand that all shoes vary in how they fit (even within the same style and size).

Way to rock the 18 miles. I tried a knee strap but it didn’t do anything for me (everyone is different). Tape is what works for me.

  22. Good idea getting re-fitted for shoes. (And I like the ones you ended up with!) I found a Holy Grail shoe last year and bought several pairs when it went on sale. It doesn’t seem to be as effective these days, so maybe I need another gait analysis.

Have fun on the rest of your trip and great job on 18 miles! Whew!

  23. Wow, you had a very busy week ! I think getting fitted for a running shoe every once in a while is important. I did it last year and decided to go up a half size. I have been very pleased. Congrats on your 18 miles, and with no pain. Isn’t that the best feeling ? I did 13 with no pain on Saturday. While I was tired the rest of the weekend, it was such a great feeling.

Loved your Disney photos and your vacation sounds like a wonderful family tradition.

  26. Love you guys take RV adventures! I always loved the idea most Walmarts let people camp out in the back parking lots free. The one by us used to, but too many kept showing up and a few were taking advantage and living there like week by week and abusing it, so that ended it there for all overnighters which is too bad!
The Rock and Roll roller coaster was my absolute favorite roller coaster in Disney World when I went, I remember my sister and I rode it like 5 times in a row (there was no line.) it was awesome!
Love the new shoes, I ran in Saucony’s for many years and would probably still be in them if they didn’t turn the particular type I ran in for years into a low drop shoe, and I can’t run in those. But the one great thing about Saucony’s they hold up better than most running shoes on the market, so you can really feel you are getting your money’s worth!
    Congrats on your 18 miler!!!

  28. YAY FOR DISNEY!!! Truly the happiest place on earth! One of my favorite race signs was one I’ve seen at the Disney races which says, “The happiest place on earth = the finish line!” =D Woo hoo on your 18-miler – way to push through!

Your new shoes are gorgeous! I’m wearing a pair of Saucony Rides right now for my long runs, and I love them!

  31. I’ve heard of staying in the Walmart parking lot while RV traveling, but had not heard the term ‘boondocking’ before. I like it! Sounds like a very fun Thanksgiving and Disney trip. My family went to Disneyworld when I was 6 and again when I was 12 (and my little sister was 6). We drove all the way down from Virginia (about a 14 hour drive and we were on I-95 for over 600 miles), and drove home after the trip. It was a long time in the van! The Rock n Roller coaster was my little sister’s first upside down coaster.

Hope everything going smoothly this week getting back into the swing of things.
